What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“A noble profession that allows us to be a part of students academic journey”

I have been a part of the education sector for more than 30 years. There needs to be a connection between the industry and academic institutions. To establish this relation I ventured into this sector. Teaching is a noble profession that touches millions of lives and helps people succeed.

What are the unique features of the programs offered in your department for students' benefit?

“Academic activities that provide the exposure to different industries and develop more curiosity”

As our college is affiliated with the University of Pune, we are bound to follow the structure laid down by it. We try to bridge the gap between industry expectations and academic services through additional assignments. Our second-year students get an opportunity to go for cross-industry visits other than their core branch. For 3rd-year students, we conduct workshops at the college level and invite industry professionals to interact with them. Also, we conduct an exclusive Entrepreneurship awareness camp which is conducted by the first-generation entrepreneurs who have started their businesses from scratch. We also had few projects in coordination with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

What would you like people to know about your institute they may not know?

“A unique atmosphere consisting of both academic and skill-building programs”

Our departments take care of the interdisciplinary nature of the industry. All the faculty members try to work cordially so that a student can get sufficient knowledge and apply it in the practical field. There are various industry connected activities along with regular programs at this institute. It helps students build different skills required to succeed in different fields.

What are some of the biggest challenges for the higher education sector?

“Overlapping schedules of university and institutes activities is a prevalent issue”

One of the challenges that we face is the clash between university schedules and the institute’s extracurricular activities. The timetables often tend to collide for these activities. Also, our students are from different backgrounds in society. Hence, orienting them to the institute’s environment becomes challenging. However, we aim to support our students at every stage of learning.

Do you have any extracurricular activities to enhance the skills of the students?

“A focus on student-led programs that help them develop essential soft skills”

We have several activities that include Entrepreneurship Camp, workshops, and training sessions for students' comprehensive growth. The student-centric programs are end to end implemented by student bodies, from ideation to getting sponsorships and conducting the programs. The surplus funds generated from these programs go to less privileged people in society.

What suggestions do you have for students to survive in the current competitive scenario?

“Become self-reliant and focus on innovations for the future”

My suggestion to students is that they must attempt to set up their own business. They should be a job creator rather than a job seeker. There are a lot of opportunities in different fields, one such is the agriculture sector. I believe that there are a lot of opportunities in agro-based industries and this sector is evergreen. But essentially, students must be target oriented and have patience.
