Dr. Vikram Kulkarni has been working as the M. Com Head at Institute of Business Management and Research, Hubli, Karnataka. He is a well-known faculty for commerce in Hubli Dharwad and has an amazing corporate and academic experience. Prior to joining the education sector, he has worked in Standard Chartered Bank and Flipkart in key positions. In addition to being the Head of M. Com, he is handling research and publication centers at IBMR. He has published numerous research papers in well-known peer reviewed journals and has presented many papers on contemporary topics in national and international conferences. He was co-convenor for one National and one International conference hosted by IBMR. He is Editor for 4 volumes of IBMR Research Journal of Commerce and Management bearing ISBN numbers. Apart from all this, he has conducted 2 National Level Fests for Degree Students. He is well versed with Finance subjects like Accountancy, Income Tax, Commercial Arithmetic, International Trade and Finance and marketing subjects like Service Marketing, Rural Marketing, Retail Marketing etc.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

"When I started teaching students after my studies, I got inspired and joined this sector"

After finishing my education, I started giving private tuitions to students about various technical courses and it was then I got attracted to the teaching profession. And after 6 years of my life in the corporate world, I felt that I should follow my passion of teaching, hence I joined the education sector permanently after that. And believe me this field is amazing as it gives you tremendous opportunities to grow, you educate students and nothing feels more comfortable than seeing your students achieving new heights of success.

Being the Head of MCom Department at IBMR, what is your philosophy of leadership?

"I believe leadership is all about enhancing others skills and impacting their lives in a better way"

I firmly believe that a leader should not just give orders to others and should not only act as a boss, instead a true leader inspires others by inculcating the finest quality education, skills and values in his team members. Also people grow equally in presence of a leader and speak freely.

How does the curriculum of M. Com at IBMR ensures the best practices of industry?

We offer M.Com in disciplines like Accounting and Taxation which is the most sought after skill in today’s world. And our students receive offers from reputed organizations and are trained in areas like accounts, taxations, GST, Fintech models, communication skills to work parallely with Chartered Accountants. We are also providing certification courses like SAP, Tally and aptitude training to them.

What do you think should be the Institute’s top priority over the next 10 years?

"Enhancing our teaching pedagogies and placement training would be our goal"

We aspire to make our institute one of the best choices among students by developing our college infrastructure and education system just like Delhi University or SriRam College of Commerce. Also, introducing new placement oriented training and activities to achieve the target of 100% placement for students will be another priority of ours for the upcoming years.

What challenges did you faced while designing the curriculum for MCom at IBMR?

"Inculcating new programs and events in curriculum as per industry standards was an issue for us"

Initially we faced certain challenges while including ever changing industry requirements in our curriculum in the form of new programs, but we have worked very hard to fix this and have come a long way. Recently the curriculum has been updated and we have introduced certification courses and training programs to suffice to the industry requirements and make the students industry ready.

Any suggestions which you would like to give to the current youth and aspiring students?

"Don't take anything for granted and be grateful for all your blessings"

As far as I have observed, the student community of today's time, so they are getting a lot of facilities very easily and hence taking them for granted. But they forget that once they start working in the corporate world, they might face a lot of problems because of this kind of behaviour. Therefore, I would advise them to not take things for granted and count their blessings seriously by dedicating themselves towards their goals and being grateful for people and things they have. 

How are the faculty members of the Institute of Business Management and Research?

"Our faculties are highly qualified and extensively experienced in their respective areas"

All the faculty members of our institute are highly educated and experienced in their respective areas and they all maintain a very cordial relationship with each other. In the M.Com Department itself, we have 4 faculty members with PhD Degrees and 2 faculty members are NETSET holders. Also all the faculty members are highly passionate and enthusiastic towards their work.

How does your institution train you and other faculty members to deliver their best to the students?

"They are upskilled through FDPs, MDPs and courses offered by platform like Swayam and NPTEL"

Our college regularly organizes Faculty Development Programs and Management Development Programs to upgrade the skills of all the faculty members and make them ready to deliver the best education to students. And the teaching staff also attends the FDPs and MDPs conducted by the top institutions of the country. In addition to this, faculties are motivated to join the SWAYAM and NPTEL courses which are specifically designed for them.
