The Ministry of Human Resource Development founded IIT Bhilai, one of the newest IITs, in the state of Chhattisgarh (Government of India). The Bhilai Steel Factory, one of the biggest in India, is located in the city of Bhilai, which is also the location of IIT Bhilai's permanent campus.

Despite its recent establishment, IIT Bhilai has given its students numerous opportunities to succeed in both their academics and extracurricular activities. The institute has launched the fractal academic curriculum, which supports an integrative learning environment.

The students have access to well-equipped laboratories and a knowledgeable central library, which aid in their pursuit of a comprehensive education. They are urged, though, to explore beyond the classroom setting and actively engage in the dynamic student community on campus. The IIT Bhilai student body, the Council of Student Affairs (CoSA), actively directs and oversees all student-related events.
