Mr. Santanil Dasgupta is the Director of Career guidance and Development Center at the BML Munjal University, Gurgaon. He is a postgraduate (M.Sc Tech in Applied Geophysics ) from Indian School of Mines ( Now IIT) , Dhanbad and has over 28 years of extensive experience. For the last 14 years, he has been involved in the education sector where he has also mentored many future leaders. He has spent nearly 15 years in a specialized medical diagnostics field in varied positions from junior to senior level. He played a major role in establishing career service departments of many universities such as UPES and DITU. A great motivator, trainer, and team player, he believes in patience, perseverance, and discipline as the major traits of success.
What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?
“Ability to directly impact our nation-building activities and make our societies more sustainable”
To begin with, I believe that education is the noblest and sought-after profession. Being associated with this sector is a privilege and honor.
- The onus of the higher education sector is humungous, and this motivates me to make decisive contributions to this sector.
- The versatility of the New Education Policy (NEP) will further open the door for this sector – a big and necessary transformation from the conventional and orthodox education era. A brighter future is inevitable given the tremendous scope of innovations, new teaching and learning methodology.
- The entry of foreign Universities and their best practices will equip students with a global outlook. Being a part of such a dynamic space has always been a long-cherished dream for me.
- Last but not the least, nurturing young minds, in any form, has always been close to my heart, and it is indeed fulfilling to realize my passion.
What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?
“A blend of empathy, compassion and gratitude is the epitome of leadership skills”
My philosophy of leadership is one and unique – lead and guide your team from the front and do not leave anyone behind till your journey of success is accomplished. A leader must have the ability to continually learn and listen. Besides being a core strategist, a leader must be thorough in his and his organization’s goal, a rock-solid data analyst and drive the team for success.
I always make it a point to consciously understand how I can contribute to the team’s goal significantly and become a role model. Finally, I have clearly articulated to my team members that they should not be mere followers, but rather come up with their initiatives and innovative ideas.

How do you plan for the marketing and administration of your school?

A thorough review mechanism for the set plan is the key to our success at first glance. Looking into the current dynamics of industry, socio-economic, and geopolitical changes, one must learn to embrace change and re-strategize. Adoption of new things, promptly, is very much embedded in our system and people, which is a real game-changer in our marketing and administration of the system. It is important to have skilled, passionate, and trained personnel to deliver such ambitious goals, and I must acknowledge the very selective and highly effective human resource planning for our astounding success.

I would like to encourage the current youth and aspiring students to be driven and focused – identify your goals and passion early on. Imbibe the spirit of questioning and challenge the conventional and orthodox – do not hesitate to take risks and think unconventionally. Ultimately, unconventional thinking solves the most conventional problems.
Experiential learning is the bedrock of holistic learning in this day and age. Expand your horizons, engage with the industry and professionals to learn more than what the textbooks teach you. Learn to respect time, and time will respect you.
