St Xavier’s college of Management and Technology

Dr. (Fr.)T. Nishaant, S.J. is the Principal of the St Xavier’s College of Management and Technology, Patna. He is an ardent believer in the inclusive approach to all religions and an education that benefits students in every aspect of life.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“Giving the members a reason to look up to me”

A leader is expected to inspire others. That is what makes him/her different from a manager who gets the work done. And to inspire others, one has to be an ideal role model. My life is my message. I believe in being approachable and available to anybody and respond to any situation that comes on the way.

How do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your institute?

“Providing students with the best amenities and education”

One does not have to market much in an educational institution. The students are themselves the agents of marketing. By word of mouth, the name of the institution spreads. We hardly advertise in newspapers. If we provide a quality education that is student-centered and based on values, the message will reach the clients. For effective and efficient administration, I follow the principle of 2Cs:

  1. Consult- Consult all the stakeholders as much as possible and as many times as possible.
  2. Communicate- Communicate with all the stakeholders and follow the path of meritocracy, performance-based approach, and honesty in all decisions.

How does the curriculum of SXCMT PATNA ensure the best practice of industry?

“Taking valuable inputs from the industry professionals”

The curriculum at SXCMT Patna has been designed by keeping the future of students in mind. We make sure to invite people who are in the industry to interact with our students through guest lectures. The lectures by the industry personnel give the students an insight into the industrial life and the changes taking place constantly. A few people from the industry are also invited to the grand functions of the College. Therefore, we have maximum interaction with the industry.

What do you think should be the University’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“Making sure that the students secure a position in the corporate world”

Bringing in the research culture is an important task for the University. It is our goal to encourage the students to get involved in the research. Research and action-based curriculum is the top priority of ours over the next 10 years. Whatever we deliver should be leading to meaningful jobs and culminating in personal contentment and social transformation.

When you first came to SXCMT PATNA, what was your vision for the university? Has it evolved, and how far along in implementing that vision are you?

“To make it a center of excellence”

The vision is to create a just and humane society through educating youth and developing their character, skills, talents, etc. It is an evolutionary process and it will go on.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for SXCMT PATNA specifically?

“Low morale among the students and the faculty”

Lack of motivation is the biggest challenge I see among students. Some professors are not considering their work as a mission/vocation/calling but a means of livelihood. The faculty should be trained to be a passionate mentor so that they view teaching as a mission, a passion to give their best to the world.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Stay connected to your roots and be humble”

Be passionate and focused throughout your journey. These two are the key to achieve success in life. Try to get exposure in as many areas as possible, never limit yourself while gaining knowledge. And no matter how successful you are, always empathize with the poor.

What are some plans that you’re currently (or will be) designing for SXCMT PATNA students?

“Formulating plans aligned with the need of the hour”

We are planning to launch integrated programs like BBA + LLB, BA + LLB, and B. Com + LLB. And for Engineering students, based on the demand risen for green and renewable energy we are launching special courses like solar engineering.
