Dr. Uday Kapale is the HOD, Mechanical Engineering, School of Technology at Sanjay Ghodawat University, Kolhapur, Maharashtra. He has pursued a B.E. (Mech.Engg.), M.E. (Thermal Power Engg.), and Ph. D. (Heat Transfer) degree. He has 32 years of teaching and 01-year industrial experience and has contributed 19 research papers in International journal and 03 research papers in National journal. At present, 04 candidates have completed Ph. D. and 06 are pursuing Ph. D. under his guidance.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“I believe in leading by example. Be a leader who people look up to due to your deeds”

This type of leader has the humility, courage, and insight to admit that they can benefit from the expertise of others who have less power than them. They actively seek the ideas and unique contributions of the employees that they serve. This is how one can create a culture of learning, and an atmosphere that encourages followers to become the very best they can. Respecting their ideas and encouraging them to try new approaches to improve work, encourages employees to bring more of themselves to work.


What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Teaching the youth of the country is something that motivates me the most”

The education sector provides the opportunity to produce scholars in many disciplines who could put in efforts to make a difference in society. The education sector allows us to push the boundaries of young minds preparing them to deal with worldly matters, both intellectually and humanely.

We have a very flexible Choice Based Credit System. Students can choose a specialized stream in Mechanical Engineering through Verticals as – Thermal, Design, Manufacturing, Automobile Engineering at 3rd year UG level. Department focuses on live projects and activity-based learning as well.


What are the greatest strengths of this college?

“Highly interactive educational pedagogy and excellent faculty members” 

  • Professionals from various industries visit the Institute and interact with students on a regular basis and guide them in following the industry norm and standards.
  • High focus on the interaction with industries to give them adequate exposure to the practicing aspects of theoretical knowledge they learn in the classroom. 
  • We are introducing an industry internship program (IIP-I) and an Industry internship program with the project (IIP-II) after a thorough consultation with industry persons, academicians as a part of the major curricular reforms in the choice-based credit system (CBCS).
  • For AY 2020-2021, our 183 (68+115) students are undergoing internships in various local industries as well as industries at Pune, Mumbai, Aurangabad, Satara, and Goa region.
