Dr. Mahuya Das is the Principal of Regent Education and Research Foundation. She started her teaching career in 2007 and has been a teacher & guest faculty in some of the renowned colleges and universities in India. She was awarded the senior research fellowship of CSIR-Delhi. Apart from this, the academician has eight book chapters, 18 Journal papers and 28 conference papers in her name. Her achievements also include a percentile of 84.23 in GATE in the year 1994, and she was ranked at AIR 398.

In an exclusive interview, Dr. Das told our interviewer Noor Mohammad about RERF Group, placement opportunities and shares her leadership style to overcome ongoing or upcoming academic challenges.

Teaching is one profession that creates all other professions

I started my academic career from IIEST, Shibpur. In IIEST, I used to teach postgraduate students. After teaching them, I realized that I am very passionate about teaching. Officially my teaching career began from JIS College of Engineering. After teaching in JIS for eight years, I decided to join the Regent Education and Research Foundation. 

I thoroughly believe that teaching is a noble profession. It shapes the character and calibre of young minds. Also, it prepares the students to run the country in the future.

A leader is someone who knows the importance of teamwork

Leadership is made up of two words - Leader and Ship. Where, the suffix -ship means position. So for an example: if a ship needs to sail what according to you, the most important thing is? 

The most important and the foremost thing is for the team to work in unity. This is where our first word “leader” comes into play. For the smooth functioning of the team, we need a person who can keep the team united, also, for any team that’s what a leader does. For me, I want to be the perfect example of a leader to work in a team with all the members of RERF.

No curriculum autonomy at RERF Group

We do not have curriculum autonomy. We follow the curriculum of MAKAUT (Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal). However, we do have summer as well as winter school for specific industry specific training purposes. The programs offered are modifiable as per the industry needs accordingly.

A right campus is where the focus is on the overall development of the student

According to me, a teacher should be a facilitator and mentor. Along with this, I also believe that a teacher should not spoon-feed their children. They should be able to improve the interest of the students towards studies and also give as much practical knowledge as they are providing students with the theoretical knowledge. A right campus is where an overall development of the student is kept in focus. Our College in association with Career & Courses (a preparatory institute for competitive exams) has taken a special initiative to prepare students not only for Campus placement but also for various competitive exams like: - GATE, RRB JE, SSC JE,IBPS, SSC etc.

The placement record of the college is good

For placement, the students need to know about the basics. For example: Most students have questions about how to introduce oneself in the interview. What to wear during an interview? Do we shake hands or not? What should be the answer to different questions asked by the interviewer?

For this, we in association with Career & Courses conduct a round the year special training and grooming session for the students. In this session, our main aim is to groom the students as per the needs of the Industry. We prepare them in such a way that they can easily qualify their aptitude as well as interview round, which is one of the prime reasons as to why the placement record of the college is pretty good.

Regent Education and Research Foundation will become a brand in the education world

The vision that I have of Regent Education and Research Foundation is that we have to train the students to become quality executive with high standard professionalism as well as morality and ethics using our excellent resources, infrastructural and technological support in all the professional streams.
