Mr. Rajesh K is the Governing Council Member at Jyothy Institute of Technology, Bangalore. His association with the education sector dates back to over a decade and has served on the board of a couple of colleges. His highest recognitions have come for his impeccable contributions towards the field of Entrepreneurship where he has mentored the student community in running successful start-ups. Read here what he has to say in his interview.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“It is the youth who carries the nation forward”

I have always believed that nation-building starts with schools and colleges. We teach them here should be focused on getting better jobs and moulding better character. It is one reason that has made me be with the education sector, and I have always tried to the best of my abilities to create such nation builders who can take our nation from a developing country to a developed country.

What is your philosophy of leadership?

“The nation requires real-world problem solvers”

At JIT, our core focus is on creating leaders who can solve real-world problems. The idea of leadership should be about eliminating any dictatorship in our society and enabling every individual to become a leader in building a progressive nation.

What are your thoughts on the Indian education system?

“The education system has seen tremendous changes”

If you look at the education system, we have evolved a lot from studying what’s there in textbooks. Our progress towards value-based education was phenomenal in recent years. We are now at the juncture of research-based instruction, where innovation takes the front seat. At JIT, we push hard to ensure that the graduating students become 100% engineers by creating facilities that allow students to innovate and learn practical skills.

How does your curriculum ensure best industry practices?

“We prepare students to be ready for corporate”

Apart from the regular classroom teaching of the syllabus prescribed by VTU, JIT also ensures that the students are up to date with the corporate world by having guest talks by experts from the industry regularly. It also helps students to know the practical usage of things they study in the class. We also ensure industry-specific training is given from the first year of engineering to keep the students ready for placements and competitive exams.

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the institute and the students?

“I head the admissions and brand marketing at JIT”

I take colossal responsibility sitting in this chair and representing the management. When students and their parents come for admissions, we make huge promises of building their careers. My top responsibility is that every single promise is adhered to and implemented throughout their stay on this campus.

What do you think should be the Institute’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“We want to become an institution of prime excellence”

We look forward to being one of the country's best institutions, creating more and more job creators. We are also making steady progress in getting out innovations from this institution to solve real-world problems. From studying the effects of global warming on the arctic pole to creating solutions for controlling Covid19 through our research centre, we are proud to have already made a mark in this space.

What do you see as your institute’s greatest strengths?

“Our exclusive research facilities are our greatest strengths”

JIT has made tremendous progress in the research and innovation space through the exclusive and exquisite in-house R&D centre – Centre for Incubation, Innovation, Research & Consultancy, and the in-house incubation centre – Atal Incubation Centre – Jyothy Institute of Technology Foundation. There are already over 20 start-ups incubated on campus, a few of which are still pursuing their engineering. The beauty of these in-house establishments is that students get to pursue their passion for entrepreneurship, get funded for their ideas, and earn while still pursuing their engineering.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Students should make wise career choices”

I would only give one suggestion to any youth, ‘‘Pursue your Passion’’. It’s not about what others want you to become, it’s all about what you want to achieve in life. Before joining any course ask yourself, do you see your future in that particular domain and are willing to spend the rest of your life making a career in it? Only if your heart says yes, pursue it.

I have always believed in Swami Vivekananda’s quote, where he says “Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, a dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea leave every idea alone. It is the way to success.”
