Dr. G Magesh has been working as the Head of Mechanical Engineering Department at JCT College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu since 2011. He has 14 years of teaching experience and 4 years of industrial exposure. He has done B.E in Mechanical Engineering from Bharathiar University, M.E from Madras Institute of Technology and PhD Degree from Anna University as part of his academics. He has also published more than 10 papers in National and International Journals and is a member of ISTE. He is a very passionate, diligent and enthusiastic person.

What is the Vision and Mission of your Mechanical Engineering Department?

"It is to empower our students with best skills and prepare them for the industrial world"

The vision of our department is to provide world class Engineering knowledge to our students and produce competent and proficient Mechanical Engineers for industries. And enhancing students' knowledge as per industry standards and requirements, establishing state of the art laboratory facilities, interacting with industry and institutions and providing an environment to inculcate ethical values and lifelong learning in our students also comes under the scope of our vision and mission of our college.

How would you describe your leadership style?

"I trust in independent way of working"

I believe a true leader enforces and supports an independent way of working with his/her team, so that they can deliver best possible results within a stipulated time frame. Along with this, a leader is kind and soft-spoken and understands his team requirements, issues, queries and shortcomings as well. And as and when required, a leader should be firm and strict as well. And if I talk about myself, then I have given complete freedom to my team members, teachers and students to voice their opinion without any fear or hesitation. 

How is your college curriculum associated with the industrial best practices?

"It is prepared by the expert team of industry professionals and academicians"

We follow the curriculum designed by the University to which we are affiliated and because the curriculum is prepared by an amazing team of industry experts, academicians and other prominent people, industry demands are included into it. Also, we offer crash courses to our students on the latest technologies as and when required to make them ready for the industrial world.

Any suggestions which you would like to give to the aspiring students?

"Along with studies, give equal attention to extracurricular activities"

I would advise my dear students to focus on co-curricular activities along with academics, because academics itself is not enough and they need teamwork, leadership and time management like skills to succeed in both personal and professional life. And carefully decide about your higher education courses and job preferences, because no matter which course you are pursuing, your passionate attitude is very important to secure a good career in that field.

What career options are available for students after pursuing courses from your college?

"A wide variety of jobs are available in the corporate sector"

There are a diverse range of job opportunities available in the outside world. And students after successfully completing the courses from our institute can work as AI-powered Engineers, Data Scientist, Data Analysts, Product Analysts, Machine Learning Engineers and Machine Learning Architects. And some other job profiles include positions like Clinical Analyst, Drug Inspector, Drug Analyst, Professor and Biotechnology Analyst in the discipline of Pharmaceutical Engineering.

How does your college enhance the skills of its faculty and prepare them as per industry standards?

"They are trained via FDPs, seminars and expert sessions"

For the purpose of upskilling our faculty members and training them on the latest technologies, our college regularly organizes Faculty Development Programs along with industry interaction sessions, seminars and guest lectures to educate them about the latest happenings and trends of the industrial world. 

What are some of the goals you would like to achieve in the future?

"Establishing a cordial learning environment in our college will be our goal"

Our JCT College has been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council and National Board of Accreditation. But since we have a diverse range of students in our college, the understanding and learning levels of some of them is very poor, which we need to address and rectify on an early basis. Hence we are planning to create a conducive learning atmosphere in college to promote the culture of self learning in students.

Any suggestions which you would like to give to the students and youths of our society?

"Pursue the courses as per your passion and interests, and don't get addicted to social media"

I would suggest to all my students and youths of our society to pursue those courses or study those subjects which suit their interest and passion. It shouldn't be based solely on their instinct, a friend's recommendation or parental guidance. Be conscious of your strengths and flaws. Also obey your families, mentors and elders and don't get addicted to social media apps like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and other mobile devices. Because if you spend your precious time on these unnecessary things, you are definitely going to suffer later. Hence, utilize your time effectively and make best use of available technologies for your personal and professional growth.
