Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) is a deviant example of private-public partnership by getting the financial support from a corporate source as well as from the Government of India. It is an excellent institute for research and education in the field of Mathematics. The CMI campus is based in Siruseri, Chennai.
CMI offers 2 undergraduate, 3 post-graduate, and 3 research programs in the fields of Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science.
CMI Entrance Exam Result 2022
CMI conducts the entrance examinations to grant admission to the UG, PG, Research programs. The examinations are paper-based and the questions are subjective type. However, the topics are different for each program. All the candidates have to go for an Interview round after qualifying in the written test for the Ph.D. programs.
B.Sc. Entrance Exam
The institute conducts a common entrance exam for both the B.Sc. (Hons.) courses. The test is designed to take the aptitude test of the candidates to do Mathematics. The topics covered in the test are:
- Algebra
- Calculus
- Complex numbers, roots of unity
- Geometry
- Trigonometry
M.Sc. Entrance Exam
CMI conducts two types of entrance test to grant admission in the M.Sc. programs. One of them is organized only for M.Sc. in Applications of Mathematics. The test is based on the 10+2 and B.Sc. level questions. The covered topics are:
1.Sets, Prime Numbers, Rational and irrational numbers, Permutation and combination, Binomial Theorem, Complex Numbers, Arithmetic progression, Geometric progression, harmonic progressions, Algebraic inequalities, Logarithms, Theory of quadratic equations, and Polynomials and remainder theorem.
2.Functions, Limits, and Continuity, Derivatives and applications to maxima and minima, Sequences and series.
3.Matrices, System of linear equations, and Eigenvalues
Another one is clubbed for the M.Sc./Ph.D. in Mathematics and Computer Science. This entrance exam consists more of the topics from M.Sc. course. However, the institute keeps different cut-offs for M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels. The topics covered in the questions paper are:
- Algebra
- Complex Analysis
- Calculus and Real Analysis
- Topology
Ph.D. Entrance Exam
CMI conducts a separate entrance test for the Ph.D. in Physics. The topics for the entrance test are:
- Classical Mechanics
- Quantum Mechanics
- Electrodynamics
- Statistical Mechanics
Note: If the candidates have an NBHM Ph.D. Fellowship or qualified in the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) and are in the top 300 ranks, they can directly go for the Interview round without writing the CMI entrance test.
The results will be announced on the CMI official website. The candidates need to check the Announcement section to view the result.
