What are your roles and responsibilities?

“To bring opportunities for the growth and upskilling of students”

Being the HOD, I need to look after the overall development of the department and I also need to ensure the smooth conduction of classes. I personally interact with the students, take their formal and informal feedback and take actions (wherever needed). I along with the department organize conferences, workshops, seminars and field visits as per the current market demand. We also encourage students to take up interdisciplinary problems and provide solutions to them.

How do you establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

“By ensuring an environment of trust, respect and open communication”

frequently interact with fellow faculty and students and help faculties to promote a positive attitude in the department. As we all know that trust is the main step in building strong and healthy relationships. We have ensured such an open communication environment where students can talk freely with their faculties and they try their best to solve the problems of students. The main mantra of our department is to give respect to others. This not only applies to faculties but also to students.

How do you bring in a practical and industry-oriented approach towards subjects?

“Through personality development programs, projects and indoor activities”

We draft and update our syllabus as per the industry demand. Along with this, we focus on the following points:

  • Technical skill enhancement through training and seminars
  • Project-based learning and incorporation of internships for hands-on experience
  • Inclusion of presentations, collaborative activities and role-plays in teaching-learning to make traditionally non-practical subjects more application and skill-based.
  • Inclusion of Communication and Soft Skills Courses in the curriculum.
  • Value addition through MOOC courses such as SWAYAM, Spoken Tutorial, etc.
  • Projects and Seminars integrated into the syllabus.

How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it befitting for the students?

“Corporate experts provide insights of industry demands and we plan it accordingly”

The curriculum is developed and framed in-house and approved by the Board of studies in the department. The courses are reviewed every year and revised and updated once in three years. In Boards of Studies industry experts are included as special invitees. Feedback on curricula is regularly taken from students, alumnae, academic peers and industry experts in the department.

What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department?

“We are ahead in both the areas due to our brightest students”

We have been successful in maintaining our high placement figure and our students have joined higher educational institutes for their post-graduation courses in India and abroad. The IISU active Placement Cell operates round the year to facilitate contacts between companies and graduates. Our students are working with International Software companies in India, UK, Hong Kong, Canada, USA, Netherlands. Some of the students are working as Entrepreneurs.

How do you help your student to cope with this competitive world?

“We proffer opportunities to them to work on national/international projects”

We provide training to students for different competitive exams. The IISU international cell motivates the students to take up collaborative projects with other foreign/national universities as student projects. Different events are also organized from time by our active placement cell to make them industry-ready.

How does your college help students upskill themselves?

“By motivating them to participate in public-private projects”

We encourage our students to take up internships outside in order to have an industry experience and come up with feasible solutions. The students have also participated in hackathons organized by MHRD and other higher educational instructions. This is a mechanism to understand real-time problems and come up with new solutions.

What are the challenges you have faced to uplift the quality of education of your department?

“To have sync between weak students and faculties”

There are various challenges that we have faced, but the biggest challenge for us is to handle slow and advanced learners in the class. The communication gap between faculty and slow learners is a great challenge. Another challenge is to upgrade the teachers for new technologies as in Computer Science, market trends change frequently.

What are the approaches you bring in apart from curriculum to teach the students?

“Experimental learning is enforced through hands-on projects and the guest sessions”

Apart from the curriculum, we organize guest lectures by industry representatives. Summer training and tours are also conducted, wherein students are acquainted with the environment of the industry. It helps students in enhancing their practical knowledge. Research projects are sanctioned to the UG and PG students by the University and other funding agencies like UGC/ DST, etc. to provide them an opportunity to conduct research under the guidance of their Supervisors.
