An Academician, researcher, administrator and institution builder, Prof (Dr)Yogesh Chandra Goswami is currently working as the Dean International Cooperation and Projects at ITM University Gwalior. Having published more than 70 research papers in various SCI/Scopus indexed Journals, he has been heading a trilateral DST ASEAN research project in collaboration with LIPI Indonesia and DRI Myanmar. Moreover, he is a senior elected member of renowned professional bodies like IEEE, Royal Society of Chemistry, London, and American Chemical Society, and has received AICTE ‘Young Teacher Career’ in 2010.

How do you establish healthy relations and environment in your University?

“100% transparency and students support system”

Our system believes in close involvement of students and teachers in design and development of guidelines, curriculum, projects and innovative ideas. Our philosophy is to develop a coordinated work culture that leads to a healthy atmosphere. Our student council meets regularly to discuss issues and is empowered to participate in university decisions. University has a student grievance system for any grievance/ suggestions. We possess a strategic task reviewing mechanism that works on overall management and discipline, and note the gaps that need to be filled. 

What is the philosophy of your leadership?

“Involvement at all levels and thorough discussions”

I believe in using democratic style of leadership where decisions are taken through constructive discussions with peers and juniors. Every idea is evaluated thoroughly before accepting and implementing. Complete transparency should be maintained in all the processes and designing of policies and protocols to be followed. My philosophy of leading a team is based on facilitation and learning along with the team members.

What do you think should be your University’s top priority over the next 10 years?

We have a vision to establish research facilities in the emerging areas of innovative education ensuring a best place for creation of knowledge in the thrust areas for the benefit of the society. The curriculum has been uniquely crafted with core and skill-based programs and training. Students are involved in skill-based learning regularly with industry experts and are encouraged to engage themselves in research and industry based academic programs as well. In planning, designing and execution of a flexible curriculum, we ensure an effective system in academics and interdisciplinary research expertise to participate and lead. Along with a world class infrastructure for teaching and research, we encourage our students to practice and learn relevant skills needed to make them market ready.

How do you prepare your students to face the real world challenges?

“Bringing in best practices to develop skills among students”

University is designed to cultivate research and innovation activities in collaboration with Industries and other academic institutions. We have adopted project based learning (PBL) & student centred learning with a dynamic approach to explore real world problems and challenges. We make our students work in small collaborative groups. This helps students to provoke critical thinking and use of new knowledge for problem solving context. They learn to think beyond the common approach.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth?

“Future belongs to those who take challenges and adapt”

As Darwin has explained, neither an intelligent nor physically powerful person can achieve success alone; for success one also needs to be quick, responsive and adapting to different harsh circumstances. So be smart and respond positively to all the changes and challenges in your pathway.
