Dr. Anjana Singh has over 18 years of cumulative experience in the hospitality industry and academia, with almost 15 years in academia and 3 years in hotel operations. Her area of expertise is Revenue management and Hospitality Operations and she strengthens the same through Research, Teaching, Consultancy, and Training. She has co-authored more than 30 research papers that have been published in national and international journals and presented several papers in conferences including the ones at IIT-Delhi; IMT Ghaziabad; Services Conference by Pennsylvania State Univ and Virginia Tech University (USA).
She has held various operations and decision-making positions with some of the major players of the hospitality industry – Taj Groups of Hotels, Hyatt Regency, and The Imperial, New Delhi, India. She holds an All India First Position in the Annual examination for M.Sc.
You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?
Despite the generational divide with Gen Z, what kept me linked with educational careers is to play a unique role in the information economy by teaching the future generation and it is rewarded when your students become successful in their careers.
The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute?
The employability and professional advancement of any individual's employability on a global scale is contingent on the skills and knowledge foundation he/she has acquired during the chosen programme of study. We believe that the emphasis of any academic programme should be on holistic development; this necessitates the strengthening of personality and attitude in addition to the acquisition of appropriate skills. Our programme provides the best professional and experiential based learning so that they become industry ready for global employment.
How does the curriculum of KR Mangalam University ensure the best practice of industry?
Exposure to practical training along with conceptual knowledge helps in preparing a department specific effective professional. Innovative approaches in conjunction with service and technology are essential to remain relevant and gain competitive advantages. Our faculty members explore critical trends - producing research that shapes our industry’s strategic, managerial, and operating practices. That research comes alive in our classrooms, giving our students a competitive edge. Faculties are sent for exposure training, workshops/conferences on emerging issues in Hospitality and Tourism and FDP on topics related to the need of the curriculum. Any insights into how your university could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?
Multiculturalism and diversity are parts of Indian society. As a nation and as Indian citizens, it is ingrained in our culture. University Academic administrators including deans, department chairs, and academic support can play a significant role in ensuring that there is a supportive climate for students of different races and economic backgrounds. For instance, they must oversee how students are paired with formal mentors and offer faculty mentors with training in cultural sensitivity.
What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the University and the students are?
My role as a senior management team is to promote and achieve the University’s goals set out in its strategic plan. Our role is to provide academic leadership, to encourage excellence in teaching and research, to promote the development of the faculty and its staff and to manage its activities through the most effective and cost-efficient use of its resources, within the framework of the University’s Strategic Plan and policies.
When you first came to KR Mangalam University, what was your vision for the university? Has it evolved over time, and how far along in implementing that vision are you?

Being the principal of KR Mangalam University (Dean of SOHMCT), what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?
My style of leadership is direct, team-building, and exemplifying what I preach. "My leadership philosophy is to guide my team, inspire people to reach their full potential, and be a leader who is accessible. I endeavour to be an approachable leader who values honesty, work ethic, loyalty, and respect. Yet, I will not accept laziness, dishonesty, or a lack of work ethic from those I lead.
