With vast teaching experience of more than two decades, Dr. M. Premkumar is currently serving as the Principal at Paavai Engineering College, Namakkal. He is an erudite scholar and has held many responsible positions in administration of many institutes and project coordinators at national and international level. Besides being chief editor and reviewer for many technical literature in Engineering & Technology, Dr. M. Premkumar has also been a key resource person and keynote speaker for a number of Indian and International Conferences.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“A way forward for a great nation”

I am blessed to be connected with the education industry for more than two decades. I have always enjoyed seeing young children growing into mature professionals and taking this nation forward. Students are the future of this great country and must be given an appropriate environment to grow and flourish into responsible citizens. 

How would you describe your leadership style?

“Directing, Guiding and Influencing”

Leadership is not only taking the authoritative position, but it is vested with responsibility to meet out the vision of the institution. It comprises great guidance and influence in the behaviour of people around you towards accomplishment of specific goals in a given situation. I always believe in participative leadership style and decentralized hierarchy to make all the members of the organization feel recognized for their part. 

What do you think should be the College’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“Developing Professionals with strong skills and technical competences”

Along with diversified discipline and inter - disciplinary courses, we ought to bring in professionalism in our students to meet global standards. A domain where news ideas can expand, grow and develop into productive outcomes must be accomplished in all possible ways. Establishing industry incubation centres, foreign university collaboration, consultancy projects, and entrepreneurship start-ups through our students is our dream priority.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relation and environment in your college?

“Strong connection between staff and students”

Maintaining and establishing relationships with faculty members, non-teaching staff and students are very important. We proactively design training programmes, faculty development programmes and research initiatives for faculty members and students. I am always open to constructive ideas and suggestions. It is always a practice of our institution to be like a family. All the issues are addressed and sorted out in a smooth manner. The residential training and outdoor training is given to the faculty members and the students by the participatory management to establish healthy, friendly and good relationships with faculty members and the students.

How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practice of the industry?

“Revision, Modification and Up gradation”

Our college constitutes a board of members from domain and industry experts who guide us in framing the curriculum and syllabus according to the latest industrial technology. We also undergo a choice based credit system in which certain elective and professional courses from industry domains are offered, and students have full freedom to choose this according to their interest and desire. Seminars, Conferences, Industrial visits and a range of internships and student exchange programmes in collaboration with foreign universities providing a bridge for industrial alignment are conducted annually to let students gain practical knowledge and wisdom.
