Saraswati Banerjee Admission Experience

Did you avail of the benefit of any reservation?

Saraswati Banerjee: “General (No reservation).”

Describe the general setting of WAT / GD (if any)?

Saraswati Banerjee: “Once the XAT score cutoffs are revealed, the candidates get a choice to choose their GD/PI center and date slot as per their convenience. There are usually two slots in a day and the GD/PI slots can be selected from mid-February to mid-March. The GDs are held in slots of 10, with at most 3 moderators. The topics can be abstract as well as current affairs based. We can start the GD after 3-4 minutes of thinking. It is recommended to speak at least thrice in the course of 25 minutes allotted, as people try to speak over each other and not everyone might get a chance. After the GD is complete, the candidates are called for their interviews.”

What was the WAT / GD Topic?

Saraswati Banerjee: For HR, which was my chosen branch, the topic was, "Are the other branches of MBA, like finance and marketing, more lucrative than HR? Why are students more drawn to these branches?"

What were your answer/points put forward for the WAT or GD respectively?

Saraswati Banerjee: “HR is one of the most underrated branches in MBA. It includes not just hiring and firing, but also a considerable amount of analytics, law, and operations. It is one of the most important roles in every industry and any organization will not survive without HR activities. Job commitment and involvement are what draws employees to a firm and keeps the attrition to a minimum.”

Describe the general setting of your personal Interview.

Saraswati Banerjee: “There were three panelists, two of them being professors and one was an industry expert. The mode was offline (early March 2020). It was basically a mix of stress interviews plus some general knowledge questions. The interview lasted for about 30 minutes.”

Mention at least 5 interview questions that were asked to you and your responses to each of them.

Saraswati Banerjee: “1. Is TCS a good company? (I worked for TCS)

Answer: Yes, it is an IT firm with more than 4 lac employees and contributes 75% to the revenue of Tata Sons.

  1. Tell us/write (I was given a paper) 3 criteria for judging whether the company is good or bad?

Answer: job security, learning opportunity, and growth opportunities

  1. What do you think of mass layoffs in the IT industry?

Ans: Told them it was unethical and that industries should avoid it. Was grilled a lot on why it was necessary but I maintained my stance.

  1. Whom will you marry: a guy that loves you or a guy you love? And why?

Ans: I would marry a guy I love as I believe I am not unlovable and I would be doing grave injustice to a person by marrying him if I don't love him.

  1. Have you read Harry Potter?

Answer: Yes, all 7 of them.

Note: Always think carefully before you answer any stress questions. They will cross-question. Moreover, be ethically right."

Mention 3 reasons why you chose this college over other colleges which you converted.

Saraswati Banerjee: “XLRI was the best college amongst my list of converted colleges. It offers the best HRM course in South Asia. Moreover, all its faculties are one of the best in the industry and the placements are also at par with the top IIMs and ISB.”

What was the reason for you not converting other colleges? (if any)

Saraswati Banerjee: “IIT Kanpur, 2018: Could not answer mathematics class 12th question based on graphs.”
