What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“Giving space to everyone to participate”

My leadership style arises from a collaborative approach. I always take people along with me, my faculties, students, staff, and management for the holistic development of the institute. I personally follow the carrot and stick approach while dealing with students. It helps them to reflect on themselves and their progress.

In these hard times of the COVID-19 situation, how are you engaging your students?

“Multiple initiatives for the betterment of the students”

To make up for the hard times, we created groups on online messaging platforms so that the students can get whatever information is necessary for them. The online classes are scheduled for 3 to 4 hours on a regular basis and we also arrange webinars for the students. Our professors are collaborating with several HRs, Marketers and all, to conduct regular sessions for the enrichment of students. We share relevant videos about the industry and the current affairs about companies like KFC, McDonald’s, Harley Davidson to name a few. This helps the students understand the impact of severe changes in the industry.

How does the curriculum of Swami Vivekananda Institute of Management and Computer Science ensure the best practice of industry?

“Emphasis on practical application”

Our curriculum is up to date in accordance with the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology. We are an AICTE approved Institution. We frequently organize business quizzes, events like entrepreneurship week, activity classes, team games, and roleplays to give students practical and creative learning. As it is said MBA is not just confined to books, learning should come from observing and applying. Giving a chance to the students to apply what they have learned makes them ready for the industrial and corporate world.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the Swami Vivekananda Institute of Management and Computer Science and the students are?

“Ensuring the smooth functioning of the academics and the management”

As the Principal of the institute, my roles and responsibilities include:

  • Academic and administrative planning and overall development of the institute
  • Mentoring & guiding students for internship and entrepreneurial activities
  • Development of E-Learning Materials and Innovative teaching
  • Organizing Professional Development activities

Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

“Making them ready to face the real world”

Starting from the first year itself, other than the regular curriculum, we have soft skills training from specialized professionals for making student interviews ready. We make sure to arrange Personality Development sessions where they are taught how to answer basic questions in an interview and how to focus on their body language. Working on the behavioral aspect should be given equal importance.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general?

“Getting used to the new normal way of education”

Students in the rural areas do not have the awareness about higher education and the opportunities it opens up in life. Nowadays there are so many different kinds of new courses available based on different interests, but they are losing on chances. In urban places, everything seems fine, but a big chunk of students belong to the non-urban areas, so we have to bring them into the mainstream. Another thing, online education is coming in a big way, you have to be equipped with that. However, there are challenges as several teachers and faculty members are not accustomed to new technological advancements. Some may be good in chalk and talk kind of environment, so we need to train them for a new wave of the digital era.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“An ethical approach will take you a long way”

My suggestion to students is to be more honest, utilize your time and resources properly. Try to give your best in whatever you do, do not follow a short-cut approach. Life is not a bed of roses, it is filled with challenges, and the shortcut may cost you.
