What are some of the best practices of course you are offering in your institute?

"Our rural camps, collaboration with international institutions and Indian agencies are best practices"

Apart from the regular classes, our department organizes various programmes keeping in mind the holistic development of our students. Rural camps are organized on an yearly basis for the first year PG and UG students of social work, to give them an idea about the life struggles those community people face and we then ask them to develop appropriate solutions for the same. In addition to this, our department has collaborated with James Cook University of Australia to organize events like the International Conference and Students Meet DE NOVO wherein participants from in and around the world come and share their thoughts on various topics related to Social work. This imparts cultural exchange among our students. Our department has also signed MOU with Government and Non-government agencies to carry out community related programmes and projects like Environment Day, Old Age Day, Aids Day and Women’s Day etc. Our students are provided with theatre workshops, participatory rural appraisal training, SPSS orientation etc. with experts from outside to upgrade their skills.

What are the valuable insights of the programs that are being offered by your institute?

"We provide best education, guidance and extracurricular activities to students"

MSW and BCM curriculum is organized in such a way that it will be beneficial for our students in many ways. When our students coordinate rural camp, they spend 5-10 days in the rural area to understand the rural community and their needs to the fullest and all this process helps us to instill skills like coping skills, adaptability, interpersonal relationship skills, coordinating and organising skills in them. We promote values such as empathy, awareness of the rights, acceptance, individuality and uniqueness of an individual along with perseverance, safeguarding our nature, recycling and reuse concepts.

How do these programs ensure the future preparedness of students?

"Our courses are backed by seminars, international level events, field work and visits"

We keep conducting seminars to give an overview to our students on job opportunities present abroad. And we also organise sessions and extra classes to improve students' communication skills and build their overall personality. They are given opportunities to attend various national and international seminars, so as to improve their expertise in the concerned subject. Workshops to enhance their research skills, counselling and therapeutic sessions, rural camps, field work, study tours and international exchange programmes make them enriched with various cultures and enhance their subject knowledge. So in this way we transform our students into great professionals and future leaders.

How do you prepare yourself as a faculty to deliver this program to the students?

"By updating myself with latest news, participating in events and publishing articles"

As a Social Work Practitioner, I keep updating myself with the latest developments in the education sector especially on various software's and to enhance my research and publication skills, I publish articles related to social welfare. In addition to this, I keep participating in different faculty development programmes. Lastly, my participation in National and International Seminars along with my involvement in programmes conducted by joint collaboration of NGOs and Government organisations helps me to improve my communication skills, coordinating skills, networking skills and above all my knowledge and experience.

Which benefits and career options are available for students after pursuing these courses?

"Opportunities are there in every field, be it Family Courts, Government Agencies or Society"

The welfare programmes are on the rise in our nation, hence our students will be having tremendous work opportunities in Community Development Projects like ICDS programme, Kudumbashree Project, environment and wildlife conservation projects, geriatric care, human rights and child rights etc. As mental health problems and family issues are of great concern, our students will also be playing a significant role in family courts and schools as Mental Health Professionals. Also because European and Middle East countries give more emphasis on welfare programmes, our students have job scope there too. As this world is getting more and more complicated, social workers will be in great need as they know how to solve problems effectively in a professional manner.

Any valuable advice which you would like to give to the students to have a good career ahead?

"Keep upgrading your skills to make a bright future for yourself and become financially stable"

I believe good education is the only tool which can change an individual’s life in a wholesome manner. So I would like to advise my students that if you are aiming for a better future, keep learning and upgrading your skills until you become an expert of it, explore all the possibilities and expand your network with some of the brightest minds who are already working in that field. In addition to this, work on your communication skills as it plays a very important role in this competitive world. Make yourself financially stable and independent. Lastly, keep participating in events like conferences and seminars as these events will give you a wider perspective of various things.

When you came to this college, what was your vision for it and how are you trying to achieve the same?

"To contribute in institute growth in the best possible way by becoming an expert of my field"

When I joined this institute, my vision was to become an expert of Social Work so that I can contribute to the growth of the institute to the fullest. And for that I am doing my best to publish at least two articles in journals related to social work. I believe a good teacher should always be eager to learn all the new updates especially with regard to one’s field, and for me it is definitely Social Work. I am trying to make use of every opportunity coming my way, like leading faculty and students of my department, coordinating and organizing events like faculty exchange and faculty development programmes. Apart from all this, I am also involved in coordinating international and national seminars and arranging twinning programmes so that our students can be easily exposed to foreign universities and foreign students can become part of our programmes, providing a chance for our students and department to collaborate with various NGOs and Government Agencies to organise rural camps for students so that they will get the pulse of our rural community.

What made you decide to become a Teacher?

"My curious attitude to explore things and possibilities this field offers me to contribute in nation growth"

I am a person who likes to explore the opportunities and possibilities in my field and always want to live in the social work profession. As I am dealing with young minds, I need to update myself with the latest technology and developments happening around. Teaching is one profession which gives me possibilities to mold the future generation by mentoring, guiding and motivating the young minds. This profession has always helped me to enhance my reading, presentation, planning and organising skills and above all accepting the uniqueness of an individual. Hence I believe that all these things together have always kept me associated with the education sector.
