Dr. R. Nirmala BE, ME, Ph.D. is the head of department of electrical and electronics engineering. She did her undergraduation from Tamil Nādu college of engineering and post-graduation from alagappa chettiar government college. She had 5 years of experience in education and she had published 2 research papers of the sky industry. Her area of specialization is renewable in electrical.

Being a HOD what are the roles & responsibilities towards the students.

"Deciphering and upholding my responsibilities to all students is my very first responsibility"

Hod is the primary person in charge of implementing the same for students and other faculties. maintain the students’ and staff's activities. make students and fellow faculties to learn more outside of the classroom, such as project-based learning, paper presentation and games.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

"As a teacher, I didn't anticipate receiving this position from management, but they did. I'll do my best, and I also hope that they saw the best in me as a leader when they chose me to lead the department"

I'll continue to manage the management, faculty, and students in a trained manner. Moreover, leading a team is my passion, thus I am capable of handling any situation.

What do you think should be the College’s top priority over the next 10 years?

"We must engage in additional activities to promote college outside of the classroom"

Student activities will increase the college enrolment. They will have more hands-on training opportunities and well-equipped training labs to bring, as well as more government-related clubs to bring. They will also need to obtain financing from the government and produce research-focused publications for the department head.

How do you try to bring in practical approach towards subjects and make it industry oriented?

"Workshops that we run for Students who have graduated from outside the college are engaging in our certification programmes"

We shouldn't instruct students on what to do in a lab environment. Students should do the things in their practical manner. If we teach in a lab then students won’t get trained on practical knowledge so we always instruct the students to get notes on previous days itself for the practical section. shouldn't impart any knowledge while encouraging people to improve their practical skills instead.

How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it gets updated to make it befitting for the students?

"We don't strategize the curriculum"

Rather than that we adhere to the anna university; currently, we mostly use a 4.0 industry-oriented updated syllabus that will help both staff and students flourish.

How does your college prepare students for placements?

"We have a separate crew for the placement cell and outside trainers. We have placement coordinators for each department"

If students fail to participate in placement events, they will be disciplined and parents will be informed as well about placements. As the department leader, I always put my department's 100% placement rate first before considering other departments. Therefore, I always give it top importance to train my department's students and position them in reputable businesses. 50% of our students may be placed in industry-oriented companies because we are an industry-oriented college.

Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real world challenges?

"We have sports for all departmental students to participate in extracurricular activities"

Our finest sports include cricket and kabaddi. We do have some groups for social activities, and we also push students to participate in blood donations and awareness marches. In addition to social events, we also offer internships and in-plant training that are required for certifications, as well as student visits to businesses under the supervision of industry professionals.

What are the challenges you faced/ are facing to uplift the quality of education of your college?

"Students may utilise mobile technology to their advantage whenever they want"

But since everyone has become accustomed to using their phones, it might be difficult to get them to give them up. Additionally, the majority of students from rural areas only attend institutions for laughs, making it difficult to recognise students from certain backgrounds.

How does the department/college enhance the skills of the faculty and prepare them according to the industry standards?

It is very convenient to be able to complete online training in one location and attend the training wherever we are because Anna University offers both online and offline courses to develop faculty members' skills. For instance, if any colleges were to hold department-specific faculty development programmes, we would go to them with a 100% attendance rate. because as teachers, we must understand how to deal with pupils and difficult situations.

What valuable advice would you like to give the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

"My opinion is that when students are obedient, they will develop and should provide social assistance"

Be patient and careful, and remind them that as a student they should follow the instructions.. Even in college, our staff members should support each and every student. We as students should be a help minded person with their colleagues. Focus and future and enrich your career growth.
