Being the Department Head, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

"Educating students and ensuring they receive best facilities in college is my responsibility"

As the Head of the Civil Department, it is my responsibility to ensure that our division has a strong base of good quality Engineers. And educating and guiding them whenever they get stuck in something also comes under the scope of my responsibilities. 

How would you describe your leadership style?

"I believe my leadership skills are good as I take sufficient time to understand people while working with them"

Being a leader is something I have been good at since the time I was in school and college as I have handled many representative and administrative positions. And managing a team doesn't come as naturally to me as it would to some people.

What approaches do you use apart from curriculum to teach the students? 

"We organize group discussion and knowledge enhancing activities to teach them beyond books"

For the purpose of educating students beyond curriculum and books, we conduct surveys, competitive exams discussions, group discussions and other knowledge-gathering activities with the assistance of IT and business professionals. So overall these events and industry experts help us a lot in keeping our students updated with the outside competitive and technological world. 

How do you introduce a practical and industry oriented approach towards subjects?

"This approach is implemented through hands-on training, surveys and projects"

I firmly believe that students of this generation are quite knowledgeable and stay updated with technological developments. But it's equally important that students should have knowledge of tech courses outside their respective courses so that they can crack other competitive exams. And because Civil Engineering is the mother of all Engineering disciplines, we have established well-equipped test labs in college and also regularly organize practical training programmes, hands-on training sessions, surveys followed by the consulting activities. Along with this, we assign projects to students in collaboration with our industry partners. 

How does your college prepare students for placements?

"Through dedicated training programs and teaching them how to use latest software"

In our Civil Engineering Department, the training of students is handled by the Placement Cell of our college itself. And this cell keeps conducting Aptitude Training and mock tests. Also, along with these soft skills, students of Civil Engineering must have knowledge of CAD and AutoCAD softwares so that they can draw patterns during interview time and secure good jobs in multinational companies and big businesses.

Which extracurricular activities are conducted in your institute to enhance the skills of students?

"Sports events, fun activities and club activities are regularly conducted by us"

We arrange a wide variety of co-curricular activities including sports events and sessions related to students courses and latest technologies on a regular basis including Saturday as well. And the main aim of this is to enhance the technical and non-technical skills of our students. And along with encouraging students to participate in college activities, we provide our full support to them to make these events a great success. 

What challenges are you facing to uplift the education quality of your college?

"Students inattentive attitude for studies is a real challenge for us"

The primary issue which we are facing right now is the lack of interest and concentration in students towards their studies, rest they are intelligent without doubt. Hence I try to engage them in some kind of fun and useful tasks which are also relevant to their interest to bring back their focus. 

When you joined this college, what was your vision for it and how are you trying to achieve the same?

"Educating students and producing best Engineers was my vision"

When I joined the Sree Sakthi Engineering College as the Head of Civil Engineering Department, my aim was to offer finest quality education to students and produce the best Engineers. And we all also aspire to introduce faculty-oriented programmes and establish research-oriented technology labs in our college. Our last objectives are to increase admission statistics of our college and establish an amazing Placement Cell to bring best job opportunities for students. 

How does your college enhance the faculty skills and prepare them as per industry standards?

"College upskill the faculty members through FDPs, practical learning sessions and guest lectures"

We frequently attend the Faculty Development Programs that are required for certification in our college. And we also participate in events like guest lectures, hands-on training and learn from subject specialists as well as how to deliver content to students in the best possible way. And to take guest lectures, faculties even travel a lot to hone their skills as sometimes these are conducted off-campus. Last but not the least, they are trained through NPTEL courses and faculty development programs which are organized by the Anna University in both online as well as offline mode.

What valuable advice would you like to give to the students for a prosperous career ahead?

"Work hard by keeping your future goals in mind and follow a proper plan to study"

My humble suggestion to my dear students is to focus less on the present and work hard to improve your future. Because if you will seriously think about your future aspirations and goals, then only you will study for it today. Hence, develop a proper plan and path for your learning journey and give your 100% sincere efforts to achieve your dreams.
