Being a Faculty of the Civil Department, what are your responsibilities toward the students?

As a faculty, my responsibility is not restricted to only give good quality education to students, but I am also responsible for their overall personality development. And to ensure this, I keep advising and counseling them, and also make sure they participate in departmental committee work. In addition to this, I am involved in curriculum development, in taking students assessment, monitoring their academic progress, giving good research windows to them and also assisting college in recruitment of students. 

How do you establish healthy relations with the students?

"By treating them equally and motivating them when they achieve any milestones"

For maintaining good relationships with my students, I never leave any opportunity to encourage and appreciate them whenever they do something good or excel in studies. And I never discriminate between students depending on their personal background or economic status and treat them with the same respect, kindness and equality. Because I believe if we really want our students to be successful, we should give them a welcoming, friendly and comfortable environment. I also use humor, tech, or other strategies to understand things from their point of view.

How do you introduce a practical and industry driven approach towards subjects?

For this purpose, we conduct a survey camp to help our students improve themselves in the field of surveying work, land measurement and ground leveling work etc. We also arrange hands-on-training sessions on topics including “Repair and Rehabilitation in Civil Works” and “Application of Total Station in Surveying” etc. in addition to value-added courses on topics like “Introduction to non-destructive testing”.

Which best practices are offered by your department to students to help them gain necessary skills? 

We regularly organize events like seminars, guest lectures, national level technical symposiums like CIVILIAN, CHISELZ and conferences on the latest trends of the Civil Engineering field. Other than this, practice sessions, live demonstrations on topics such as "Repair & Rehabilitation of Building Structure" along with classes to teach software like Autocad, STAAD PRO and REVIT are conducted too by faculties. 

How does your department prepare students for placements?

Our college has signed MOUs with DE NOVA Software Solutions and Centre of Excellence to train our students technically on software like STAAD PRO, because it will help our students to get good jobs in various companies like Fomra Housing & Construction, DE NOVA Software Solutions, CADD Centre and Vijay shanthi Construction.

How do you prepare your students to cope up with this competitive world?

"By organizing field industrial visits for them to make them aware about grassroot level work"

For the purpose of preparing our students for this competitive world, we take them for industrial and field visits such as Dam, Harbor, Diamond Engineering and to Emerald Industrial Company in order to make them aware about how things work on grassroot level and how people and processes work together in industries. And then we take assessment of students to know to what extent they have grasped the things. Lastly, by providing them with the best research facilities and opportunities, we make them ready to face the outside world with more confidence. 

In your opinion, why is education important for everyone?

I truly believe that people learn about basic norms, rules and regulations and values of society through education. So education is important because it enables us to lead a successful life, enhances our intelligence, skills and knowledge and last but not the least brings positive changes in our life.

How does your college enhance the faculty skills and prepare them as per industry standards?

We have created a Common Language of Instruction and continuously take feedback from teachers on how students are performing in academics and in which areas teachers need our support in the form of appropriate training or development programs to upgrade their own skills. 

What do you see as the college’s greatest strengths and how can it be enhanced?

The main pillars of our strength are our well-disciplined department members, our students, leadership and lastly our management who keep inspiring us to do better day by day.

Any valuable advice which you would like to give to students to have a prosperous career ahead?

I would like to advise my students to set realistic goals for themselves so that they know how to proceed with it. Also start taking responsibility for your actions as you are mature enough to decide what's right and what's wrong for you. Stay focused and make sure you complete your goals with your hard work, discipline and perseverance. Make best use of study resources around yourself and live an organized life.
