Mr. Sikandar Khan is a HOD of Mechanical Engineering at the Shankara Institute of Technology. He did his B. Tech from Rajasthan University and M.Tech from Bhagwant University. He worked as an Assistant Professor from Jan 2011 and recently as HOD of the Mechanical Department. He also worked in industry for 4years in India and Saudi Arabia in the Refinery Industry. His interested areas are research work in Desert work, Automotive systems, and solar bikes.

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students in Shankara Institute of Technology, Jaipur?

“To impart practical knowledge, discipline and motivate students”

I guide students for a deep understanding of the subject and practical approach in its applications being a mentor. My primary role is to develop students as per industry requirements. We have a team of knowledgeable faculties and well-equipped labs which helps students to gain practical knowledge. Our campus provides all necessary resources to students as per curriculum requirements. 


How do you tend to establish health relations with students and fellow faculty?

“Organize development programmes, and motivation activities for faculties and students”

A direct interaction with students and parents are necessary for the curriculum. We encourage students continuously to participate in curricular and extracurricular activities. We provide all facilities to students from the campus. Our faculties make a visit to the hostel for better connection with the students. We run development programmes, and motivation activities for faculties and students. 


How do you bring a practical approach to subjects as industry-oriented in Shankara Institute of Technology, Jaipur?

“Conduct industry visits, and practical sessions for students”

We have started a Training Programme “Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence” recently. Other Technical Training Programs are organized by us to improve practical skills and creative thinking. One of the vital aspects of Mechanical engineering is industry visits for the students. This year our students visited core mechanical companies like Agrasen Industries, SuperSonic Turners PVT. Ltd. (STPL), Khoj Industries VKI Jaipur, and other design software companies. Students are up to fate and prepare for industry through these visits. They get various job opportunities and practical processes of theoretical knowledge.

How do you strategize the curriculum and get updated for the students?

“Provide virtual classes, and industry requirements on the syllabus for candidates”

We make sure that our students have a knowledge of ongoing research and projects in the field of science. Our campus follows the curriculum guideline as per the Rajasthan Technical University, Kota. We also make students get touch in interdisciplinary branches by Skill development programmes. Students get Virtual Classes for the experiments. We follow a Smart Class System for theoretical lectures. Pupils knew about Mechanical softwares like AutoCAD, Pro-E etc from the third semester itself. It keeps them up to date with the changes in industry.


What are your views on the placements and higher education for students in Shankara Institute of Technology, Jaipur?

“Collaborate with industry to get more placements for our students”

Our campus got 100% placements for the last three years with an average package of 8-12 lac per annum. We collaborate with industry for networking courses and provide certificates to the students. It helps them get placement ready. Students are motivated to pursue MTech after graduation. Our campus provides upto 100% scholarship to meritorious students and gives opportunities to pursue higher education. We also provide international exchange programme facilities to 2 students every year who are meritorious.


How do you help your student cope with competition in the outside world?

“Industry visits, software knowledge and infrastructure are available to students from the campus”

Competition in the field of engineering is increasing day by day. Along with the technical knowledge in a particular stream, students need to enhance their communication skills and non-technical skills. We prepare our students for getting a career in the core sector of mechanical. Recently, we started a course for GATE examination with our best faculties. We motivate pupils to gain knowledge through studies. They get software skills in SAP, and other ERP from the campus sessions. It ensures students to be ready for industry. Our campus also provides industry visits and labs for pupils. Faculties maintain regular contact with the students and their families to support their future goals.


Do you have any extracurricular activities to enhance the skills of the students?

“National level youth cultural events, B-Plan competitions, and Hackathons are available to students”

With the guidance of our Honorable Chairman, we conduct many social activities like Blood Donation Camps, Plantation Camps etc. Our campus conducts B-Plan competitions, Hackathons and cultural programmes for pupils. We improve the talents of students in Sports, Interpersonal skill development, Presentation, and Entrepreneurship. They can participate in National level youth cultural events to attain confidence. We also ensure a healthy, and a ragging free campus life to the students.

What are the challenges you faced to uplift the quality of education of Shankara Institute of Technology, Jaipur?

“Online learning approach and experience in the core fields for students”

Online learning approach is supported in recent scenarios and is a greatest challenge. Practical approach is needed in core branches like mechanical. We are working to impart knowledge of the design softwares to the students. Faculties try to motivate the students to experience the core fields. It leads them to attain long careers and opportunities in industries.
