Mr. Vijay Kumar is the Head of Department of Civil Engineering at RTC Institute of Technology. He did B.Tech in Civil Engineering from Asansol Engineering College and M.Tech from NIT Jamshedpur. He has more than six years of experience in the teaching sector. He has taught the subjects Reinforced Cement Concrete, Design of Steel Structure, Geotech, Building material, construction, Fluid Mechanics, and Structural Analysis. He has received the NASA System Engineering Award. Further, he has published research paper on the topic study of compressive strength of self compacting concrete using rice husk Ash and nano silica as partial replacement of cement, a comparative study and mechanical behaviour of self compacting concrete using rice husk Ash as partial replacement of cement, a comparative study.

What are your roles and responsibilities?

“To maintain discipline and to strengthen the campus curriculum”

My primary duty is to manage discipline for students and educate them well. I am responsible for improving curriculum updates for pupils every year. Students get the chance to learn certification courses as per industry trends. 

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with students and faculties on campus?

“Solve the issues with a positive solution and raise coordination among students”

We assign 20 to 25 students for each faculty on campus to mentoring. Most problems on campus are solved with a positive solution and enriches coordination. A problem first reaches to faculty, then HOD and higher authority. 

How do you bring a practical approach towards subjects as industry oriented in RTC Institute of Technology, Ranchi?

“Provide industry visits and practical sessions for pupils”

We prefer practical sessions instead of theory for students' growth. They get the chance to visit industries and do internships. Hence, students can visualize each topic clearly. 

What are the best practices offered to the students which help to gain necessary skills?

“Experimental work, laboratory and theoretical lectures are available for students”

Our department mainly focuses on experimental work. We have a laboratory, and theoretical lectures for pupils. The skilled technical assistants support students at any time. Most classes are linked with practical concepts and pupils can grasp them easily. 

How do you strategize the curriculum for the students in RTC Institute of Technology, Ranchi?

“Update syllabus as per industry trends and evaluate curriculum for students”

We have connections with various leading institutes like BIT Mesra, ISM Dhanbad, BIT Sindri, NIT Jamshedpur. Our campus updates syllabus as per industry trends and evaluates curriculum for students. The campus Program Advisory Committee contains various people of industry, alumni and recent students on campus. We strengthen our curriculum quickly and update syllabus for pupils. 

What are your views upon the placements and higher education for students? 

“Provide tutorial lectures as per syllabus based examinations and soft skill training for students”

Our campus gives all choice-based career options like Placements, Entrepreneurship, and Higher Studies. Faculties prepare students for competitive exams and government services. We prepare tutorial lectures as per the examination syllabus. All students get training and placements at the end of last year.

How do you help students to cope with the outside competition?

Students can interact with the professors and students from other colleges fastly. We conduct programmes like NSS, NCC for students' progress. 

What challenges do you face to uplift the education quality of RTC Institute of Technology, Ranchi?

“To improve English communication and raise the education level of pupils”

Most of our students are from rural areas and pass higher secondary Examination from the state board. One of the challenges is that students are poor in English and their level is not good. Hence it’s difficult for us to raise the education level to higher levels. 

How does the curriculum of campus ensure the best practice of the industry?

“Industrial visits, training, and laboratory facilities are given to students”

We are equipped with good laboratory facilities at regular intervals. Training and industrial visits are provided to pupils in our campus. They can link practical concepts with theory fastly. 

How does the RTC Institute of Technology, Ranchi enhance skills of the faculty as per industry standards?

“Provide FDP courses and industry expert sessions for faculties”

Our campus conducts FDP programs for faculties each month. They also get industry expert sessions at regular intervals. In this way, faculties can improve their knowledge and skill set. 

What approaches do you bring in apart from curriculum to train the students?

“Add on Certification course, workshop, guest lecture, webinar, and seminar for pupils”

Students need to work on webinars, seminars, annual sports, and workshops. They can interact with professors and other talented students in a competitive environment. Certification courses like Auto-cad, Revit, Staad- pro, 3D-max, and Total Station are provided to pupils.
