Following the footsteps of his philanthropist father Late Shri Shyam Sundar Kejriwal, Mr. Kishan Kumar Kejriwal has been a Rotarian from a very early age and has been involved in various forms of social welfare activities in Kolkata and Howrah.
He presently heads MCKV Group under which there are five Educational Institutes spread across West Bengal and Jharkhand and also a Health Care Unit in Howrah, West Bengal. He believes Education & Health Care comprise the backbone of any developing economy. Serving as Treasurer, Secretary, Director as well as President of the Rotary Club of Belur, Mr. Kishan Kejriwal was awarded the best Secretary Award of Rotary District during his tenure. He is the State President, Jharkhand Association of NCTE Approved Colleges, and member of various Chambers of Commerce. Here is what he has to say in his interview.
I firmly believe providing quality education is a major form of contribution towards nation building
My father Late Shri Shyam Sundar Kejriwal ventured into the Education sector in the year 1997 with the vision of imparting quality education to people living in and around the district of Howrah. During those times, there was a dearth of good schools and colleges in this part of the city, and being able to offer that was itself the motto. I firmly believe providing quality education is a major form of contribution towards nation building.
It is our responsibility to behold the trust of the parents and make their wards successful
I believe in first hand observation, discussions, and suggestions from my peers, contemporary educationists, my employees, teachers and parents. They have given us the responsibility of shaping their wards’ future. Understanding the changing scenario and its influence on children and their coping mechanisms is fundamental.
A leader should be open to learning to bring in new possibilities
I have always tried to be accessible to all in my organization, so that I am aware of all that is happening, or whatever problems are being faced at each level. I try to keep myself updated and I'm open to learning at all times. I find myself most involved with the functioning of all my units, and this I believe is an example for my employees, from which they imbibe ownership and belongingness.

Having faith in the challenging times keeps everyone motivated
Challenges are always there, but it depends upon us to what level we let them affect us. All of us are faced with trying times, but holding on and having faith is the key. Also, adopting and implementing procedural and technological advancements helps face challenges with ease. I believe only my actions can motivate those around me and not mere words can.
We are reviewing our curriculum and seeking expert advice to formulate it according to the industry needs
We have recently been granted the Status of Autonomy by UGC and MAKAUT, our affiliating University. This is a milestone for our college and we pledge to provide maximum benefit for students through its implementation. We are now reviewing our curriculum and seeking expert advice to formulate it according to the industry need & requirement. When a student appears for an interview after his completion of four years B.Tech degree, he should be equipped with the knowledge of the latest technologies, tools and skills. In short, he should be a desired candidate for recruiters and have an upper edge over the others in the line.
Curiosity can connect to new paths of learning
The first and the foremost prerequisite for a student is to remain curious. The more one is curious to know, the easier it would be to remain updated. The spirit of curiosity itself has led to all research and inventions. Being persistent with all your efforts will one day certainly help you to reach your goal.
Open and interactive teaching-learning environment promotes healthy culture
To me, an open and interactive teaching-learning environment can gradually build up a healthy culture of holistic learning. In recent times where both teachers and students come across fast evolving technological changes, the interactive environment aids the development of both. Studying is no longer confined to classrooms, and teaching no longer means long hours of lecture and assignments from the teacher. The Internet has become a first-hand teacher for all, and thus we need to let students share what they already know or think, so that teachers may understand their frame of mind and point out only that part which is actually relevant to him/her.
The youth today has vast exposure to the technology and trends
In today’s world, students are open to a lot of information and experience much more than what we used to have as kids. Thus they are also prone to a lot of stress and anxiety. Empathizing with them, connecting with them personally, showing interest in their opinions or suggestions or letting them express themselves freely at various forums, can do a lot to build a healthy relationship between teachers and students. Conducting Role Play Classes, and interactive sessions on sensitive issues, can also help students feel heard.

We have entered the domain of technologies through which we will be reaching new heights
With the successful and beneficial implementation of our Autonomous status from UGC and our affiliating technology University MAKAUT from this current financial year, we wish to take this legacy forward of being one of the pioneer private engineering Autonomous colleges in the Howrah belt. We have started two new B.Tech Degree courses in engineering this year viz. Electronics & Communication (VLSI Design) and Computer Science & Engineering (Data Science). We have also ventured into a new area of Post-Graduation in Business Education (MBA in Business Analytics). What we felt is that a B.Tech degree is much required to learn technicalities, but an MBA in Business Analytics will equip you with business-forecasting and decision making abilities, and will prove to be an investment that will reap benefits for students while climbing the career ladder. A deemed University status and an expansion in the Genome sector is what we have in the pipeline of thoughts right now.
