What would you like people to know about your Institute that they may not know?

“Constructive development towards society”

LIT was established and is managed by The Society of Daughters of Mary Immaculate & Collaborators. Besides women and child welfare, and several social activities on reconstruction and rehabilitation of fellow beings, we have played a key role in the education sector for several decades. Society has established schools, colleges, polytechnics and universities both in India and abroad with the noble vision of providing education for the marginalized segment of society. The Institution established has state of art facilities with programs tailored to suit global demands.

What can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute?

“Overall growth and best professional training”

At Loyola Institute of technology, we look at the holistic development of a student. Those who enter the portals of this institution are ensured that they are trained beyond the curriculum of the affiliating Anna University, in technology currently used in the industries. Apart from this, we promote innovation, instill creativity and impart life skills along with a positive attitude in our students, and help them become successful and responsible professionals of the society.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects?

“Industrial interactions and innovative methodologies”

With the current movement towards Industry 4.0, the Institution has ensured the establishment of an active Industry-Institution collaboration cell that ensures the competence of every student is enhanced through various certification programs through the centers of excellence. At LIT, old procedures of conventional education have been replaced with interactive and novel experience-based learning methodology. Project-based learning and education through experience is being adopted. The institution focuses on encouraging innovative minds to cater to the needs of the fourth industrial revolution.

How do you tend to build an industry-connect with the programs at LIT?

“Large scale collaborations and training opportunities”

At LIT, we have collaboration with TATTI, MSME and NSIC to ensure certification opportunities in e-vehicles, solar energy, ethical hacking, 3D printing, marketing and supply chain & logistics. The internship opportunities provided have opened new vistas for employment and research to the students. We have collaborative programs on Networking with CISCO, VMware, IoT and AI with IBM, cyber security with national cyber safety and security standards, and Nondestructive testing. It has phenomenally increased the skills and thereby placement opportunities of our students.

What are some plans that you have been recently designing for LIT’s students?

“Entrepreneurship design and research development”

Entrepreneurs are the new demand of digital India. Facilitating inquisitive minds through elaborate research facilities and encouraging entrepreneurship is our new motto. With Make in India being the mantra of the day, the Institution has established a ‘Host Institution Business Incubator’ through integration with MSME, where research is encouraged for students to uncover innovative solutions for societal needs. The college also has several patents granted and filed. Various training are provided by MSME to suitably equip the interested students and make them aware of the facilities available in our country to start a business. The college is also a spoke cell of the EDP cell of Anna University.

How does LIT prepare students for Higher education?

“Relevant training and guidance”

We help students for higher education by provisioning counselling, coaching and exam preparation for entrance tests of various universities and colleges across India. For those aspiring to leave India for higher education, we have a higher education cell that organizes training in GRE, TOEFL and arranges for interaction with universities in the USA, UK, Germany, Australia, Malaysia and Singapore. MOU’s have been signed with several universities as well.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see for higher education in general?

“Adapting to the digitalization of education system”

Higher education in India has grown rapidly in the seven decades since independence, but accessibility and quality are still issues. A distance learning facility has been a challenge across the country as education delivery modes shift. In higher education institutions, there is an insufficient emphasis on research. With this Robotics, Artificial intelligence (AI) and bid data, education has become infiltrative technology learning. We must also adapt our educational system to these changes.

How do you enhance the skills and expose students to real-world challenges?

“Active participation in various activities and welfare works”

To be an engineer with a difference, it is imperative that students are sensitive to the needs of society. It is through empathy that innovations are born. Our students are very active members of NSS, Rotaract, Leo International and have formed their own green club, drama club, etc. to interact with the neighboring villages planning and executing socially relevant projects and programs. The Leo club of LIT is an internationally acclaimed club having a place in the top 50 clubs in the world. These activities besides instilling leadership spirit have opened their eyes to the needs of fellow humans and encouraged them to contribute to the environment.
