Mr. Dr. M. Murugadoss has been working as the Principal of Aksheyaa College of Engineering, Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. He has done M. Com, M. Phil and PhD as part of his academics. He joined the Aksheyaa College of Engineering in 2015 as an Assistant Professor of Commerce and then was promoted to Department Head and now working as a Principal. He has around 14 years of academic and 3 years of administrative experience. Also, he has organized national level seminars and he has also worked as a Paper Valuator and Paper Setter for the University of Madras. Apart from all this, he has presented various research papers in several conferences and workshops during his professional career.

Being the Principal of the Aksheyaa College, what are your responsibilities towards the students?

"Ensure best education and amenities for students and supervising college activities is my responsibility"

As a Principal, my main responsibility is to provide quality education at an affordable cost to all the students, guide and support them and our faculty members along with staff as and when required for the overall growth of students, institute and every other stakeholders who work for us and work with us. 

How do you establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

"By addressing students queries on time and working as a team with fellow faculty"

For the purpose of establishing a cordial relationship with my students, we treat everyone the same and provide them equal learning opportunities, treat them with parental care and also communicate with them after college hours to resolve their academic and non-academic issues and doubts. And when it comes to fellow faculty, all of us work as a team and help each other to create a healthy working environment. 

How do you introduce practical and industry oriented approaches towards subjects?

"By organizing professional visits and teaching them using ICT tools"

We use a diverse range of Information and Communication Technology tools and facilities to educate students so that they can visualize and understand the concepts in a clear and better way. Also, we have signed MOUs with leading industries to inculcate industry oriented skills in students through events, training programs and industrial visits.

Which best practices are offered by your department to students to help them gain necessary skills?

"Skill development programs and training in trending technologies are conducted to enhance their skills"

Our college offers a wide variety of Skill Development Programs to enhance the soft skills, aptitude skills and communication skills of students. And we also provide various value based courses to them in latest trending technologies like DMLT, Python and Photoshop followed by Yoga and Tally classes which we organize as and when required. Lastly, motivational videos and stories of famous personalities are used to encourage students that hurdles will always be there in life but their confidence and hardwork will help them to achieve new heights of success. 

How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it befitting for the students?

"We design our curriculum by working in alliance with best industry experts and Academicians"

We design and renew the curriculum of our college in collaboration with University people so that we can include industry oriented courses after taking everyone's suggestions. And once the curriculum is finalized, all the Department Heads of our college prepare academic plans and schemes for the whole year and issue the same to the students so that everyone remains on the same page while faculty deliver lectures. 

How do you prepare your students to deal with the outside competitive world? 

"We offer various certification courses and placement specific training to students"

For the purpose of educating our students beyond books and hard-coded curriculum, we offer various value based certification courses along with placement training and career development programs to them and also organize expert classes to enhance their communication skills. 

Which extracurricular activities are organized in your college to enhance the skills of students?

"Cultural and social activities along with different kinds of sports events are regularly conducted by us"

We firmly understand the fact that co-curricular activities are very important for the complete growth and development of students. Hence, we have established numerous clubs who regularly organize a wide variety of cultural activities and sports events and provide a platform to students to showcase their unique talents. Also, students who are working on these clubs are exposed to a diverse range of social events to make students socially responsible and sensitive. 

What challenges are you facing in uplifting the education quality of your college?

"Lack of communication skills and creative learning attitude in students is a big challenge"

There are multiple challenges which we are facing at different levels while upgrading the education quality of our college. Because the majority of our students are from rural backgrounds, they find it very difficult to understand and communicate in English. And nowadays mobile use has increased, so they rarely visit college libraries to study and lack of writing, time management and creativity like skills among students makes the whole teaching-learning process much more complicated. 

When you joined this college, what was your vision for it and how are you trying to achieve the same?

"My aim was to work for the development of students and make them a responsible citizen"

When I joined this college, my vision was to improve technical skills of students and inculcate best ethical values in them. And to achieve this vision, we are using motivational videos, moral stories and the journey of leading entrepreneurs to teach our students. Also, we are using simple and bilingual teaching methods and always ensure to clarify students' doubts on time.

How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practices of industry?

"Industry experts are consulted before updating the curriculum to ensure inclusion of best practices in it"

The curriculum of our college is updated on a regular basis after analysis of industrial development and requirements and taking suggestions from experts and academicians. And to inculcate a creative learning attitude in students, we organize psychological training and seminars followed by internships to give them an opportunity to utilize their skills.

What approaches do you bring in apart from curriculum to teach the students?

"To educate them beyond books, we use Animation Videos and organize a lot of training programs"

We offer rigorous training programs to our students for their overall personality development, to make them more confident, help them improve their interview skills and lastly prepare amazing resumes. Besides this, we use Animation Videos to deliver lectures to students and make them understand the concepts in a better way. 

What do you see as your college’s greatest strengths and how it can be enhanced?

"Our college infrastructure and faculty members along with amazing working-ambiance makes us strong"

Our college campus is surrounded with a lush green atmosphere which makes the working-learning ambiance refreshing and energetic for our students and faculties. Also, we have established a wonderful and modernized infrastructure and labs in our college. So I firmly believe that these things make our college strong and resilient. And to enhance our strength, we are planning to improve the research facilities in our institute.

Any valuable advice which you would like to give to the students for a prosperous career ahead?

"Respect and help others and cherish the position you have got in society after all struggle"

I would suggest to my dear students and youths of our society to respect every human being, elder or younger. Also help and support others through your knowledge, skills and experience. And never abuse your position as you have faced many hurdles in your journey so respect everything you get after.
