New Delhi: According to a formal statement, the goal of this project is to formalise BIS's relationships with prestigious institutions in order to ensure the academia's active participation.

BIS has inked an agreement for the establishment of a "BIS Standardization Chair Professor" at Indian Institute of Technology BHU, Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore, IIT Patna, IIIT Madras, and National Institute of Technology Trichy.

In the relevant institutes, the establishment will support excellence and innovation in teaching, research, and development in the field of science and diverse disciplines. On November 22, 2022, IIT Kanpur played host to a one-day BIS-academia workshop on standardising mechanical testing and powder metallurgical processes and products. The session was attended by close to 100 people, including faculty, employees, research scholars, and students.

"The agreements would strengthen and enhance the standards formulation activity by facilitating research and development (R and D) projects, encouraging young people to participate in the standardisation process, and jointly organising seminars, conferences, workshops, symposia or lectures, training and short-term education programmes," said Pramod Kumar Tiwari, director general of BIS. He emphasised the importance of working with start-ups and incubator programmes at academic institutions to develop new standards and ensure that existing ones are followed.
