Bihar to Receive Its First-ever Full-fledged Engineering University: Announces Technology Minister


New Delhi: A full-fledged engineering university will start functioning soon in Bihar, as per the announcement made by Bihar Science and Technology Minister Sumit Kumar Singh. As per a report by TOI, this is to strengthen engineering education in the state.

On February 26, 2022, Singh released a progress report of the Science and Technology Department and explained that 33% seats in each category will be reserved for the female students in all the colleges to be affiliated to the university. Further, he also said that the state Government sanctioned 32 posts for the university.

At present, there are 51 engineering colleges, including 13 private institutions in the state which will now be governed by the engineering university”, as quoted by Singh. 

Singh also stated that the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) is already conducting a recruitment process and will soon appoint approximately 2,806 posts of teachers including the principals in engineering colleges as well as 1,623 posts in polytechnics.

The Minister also stated that The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna has been appointed as the knowledge partner as well as the implementing agency of a Centre of Excellence. The Institute is to provide training to students of Polytechnics in modern technologies like drone technology, artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, robotics, etc.

While talking about the employment opportunity, the Minister also said that a placement cell has been formed for conducting the placements of engineering students in the state.
