New Delhi: State Health Minister has recently announced that Bihar state is now all set to get two new medical colleges and two new hospitals in Saran and Samastipur districts. With this, the total number of medical colleges and hospitals will rise to 14 in the Bihar state.

Informing about this initiative, Health Department Additional Secretary, Kaushal Kishore stated that the hospitals will have all required facilities and 500 beds. The construction work is now underway at Saran and Samastipur and 60% of the work has already been completed.
"There are currently 1,290 seats for MBBS courses in government medical colleges in Bihar, apart from 100 seats at ESIC Medical College and Hospital at Bihta which has been set up by a PSU” he further added.
As per the data, private medical colleges in Bihar offer a total of 900 admission seats to medical courses to interested students. In addition to this, the private college in Muzaffarpur has a total seat capacity of 150 for medical courses.
After the inauguration of these two hospitals and medical colleges in state, the total admission seats available for medical courses will increase by 250. The colleges are expected to be ready by the end of this year; November or December 2022, the officials further informed.
Earlier, the state cabinet has given its approval to the proposal of setting up a medical college and hospital in the Supaul district of Bihar. During the cabinet meeting held on July 05, 2022, the government also sanctioned INR 603.68 crores for construction projects.
Informing about the approval, the officials stated that the new college in Bihar's Supaul district will be named after the socialist leader RM Lohia. In addition to this, the government is planning on establishing a new medical college and hospital in Munger and Motihari.
