New Delhi: BHU’s Department of Biochemistry, Institute of Science has won a grant of Rs 1.7 crore from the Department of Science and Technology (DST).

According to a university statement, the grant will be used to improve science and technology infrastructure in order to promote research and development activities in new and emerging areas, scientific social responsibility (SSR) activities, and attracting start-ups, manufacturing industries, and MSMEs in order to achieve the Atmanirbhar Bharat goal.

"The Department of Biochemistry at BHU is the only department of any university in the entire state of Uttar Pradesh to win this funding", according to the statement.

The grant from the government will be used to increase biochemistry research, innovation, and entrepreneurial activities, as well as to develop BHU's central instrumentation facility (CIF), according to S Srikrishna, head of the department of biochemistry.

According to the BHU statement, a state-of-the-art central instrumentation facility (CIF) will be built as part of the grant to complement SATHI. To boost the inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary research environment, the CIF will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to masters and research students, as well as faculty members.

Students pursuing postgraduate and research degrees at BHU will have unlimited access to the CIF's resources. According to BHU, this will foster an inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary research ecosystem.

DST-FIST (Fund for Improvement of Science and Technology Infrastructure) supports a highly competitive award. The Department of Biochemistry at BHU is the only department at any institution in Uttar Pradesh to receive this funding, according to the official release.

Recently, Faculty members at BHU have been given the option of conducting semester-end exams online or offline. Faculty can also allow students to choose the mode of examination, according to BHU.
