New Delhi: The Bar Council of India (BCI) has issued a warning to the students against the alleged advertisement for an online law course on a website misleadingly alike to that of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).
The BCI has directed that the advertisement tried to illustrate as if it was issued by the IGNOU website. The alleged advertisement was a notification regarding the start of LLB admission for the academic year 2022 via the distance mode.
Srimanto Sen, BCI Secretary, issued a press note, clearly stating that students should note that such advertisement are illegal and has been issued without proper recognition of any such degree and approval by the Bar Council of India.
Confirming the same, IGNOU also stated that it has not released any advertisement regarding the commencement of the LLB admission 2022, on its website.
Replying to the BCI's letter, VB Negi, Registrar, IGNOU BCI informed the council that no such advertisement has been issued by the varsity.
According to the official BCI statement, the council has released a press release to this effect, and notifying all the stakeholders and the general public about such degree courses being advertised but not being recognised or approved by BCI.
The fake advertisement has been issued at a deceptively similar website as IGNOU's on https://ignou.icnn.in/ignou-llb-admission/ which is not IGNOU official website, but using the name of IGNOU.
The BCI statement revealed that the university’s registrar has stated that the university is not at all connected with the deceptive website in any manner.
Recently, the School of Foreign Languages, IGNOU launched an online certificate course in Spanish and French, whereas the university’s School of Continuing Education launched a certificate programme in Food and Nutrition.
In addition, IGNOU's School of Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Studies, IGNOU launched an MA degree in Sustainability Science, MASS course.
