AUD Launches Centre for Research on Indian Languages; Check Details Here

New Delhi: Ambedkar University, Delhi has launched a Centre for Research and Archiving in Indian Languages and Indic Knowledge Systems (CRA-ILIKS) under the School of Letters for research on Indian languages.

The Centre has been created by the Ambedkar University to investigate the working of myriad knowledge systems of pre-colonial India.

The university has set up the centre with the financial grant received from INR 6 crore from the Art, Culture and Languages Department of the Delhi Government.

Further, the CRA-ILIKS will have four components. It will build a Bhasha archive, a vast, multi-pronged and constantly growing digital collection propelled by a multilingual search engine and user-friendly interface on the web.

The CRA-ILIKS will be accompanied by a substantial programme of translation, transcription and curation. The multidisciplinary academic research and a publication programme will make the other two necessary components. The two academic journals in Hindi and English will be published.

Speaking about the launch of the centre, Professor Anu Singh Lather, the Vice-Chancellor of AUD said that the Centre has been launched in line with the emphasis by the New Education Policy (NEP 2020) on Indian Knowledge Systems.

Further, the research is intended to challenge the dominance of western social theory and the notion that the English language is the only medium of knowledge production, she said.

Lather added that the CRA-ILIKS will soon launch the aforementioned archive and an encyclopedia of Indian thought and knowledge systems.

Meanwhile, a group of students of the College of Art has commenced an online petition to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh to not merge the college with city government-run Ambedkar University.

Delhi University was notified that the office of LG has in principle approved the merger of College of Art (CoA) subject to its de-affiliation from the varsity.

Recently, the AUD partnered with GGSIPU to develop and offer training and certification programmes for academicians and professionals in India and abroad.
