AMU Organises 3-Day Online Training Programme on Transforming Libraries Through Software

New Delhi: The Maulana Azad Library at AMU organised a 3-day online training programme on Transforming Libraries through an Integrated Library Management software, developed by LIBSYS- a software company from Gurugram that works in the area of library automation.

The primary objective of this training programme at AMU was to provide direct training to all the library professionals working in the varsity along with sufficient practical knowledge. The training programme is also for the purpose of upgrading their skills required for automation of seminars, college and departmental libraries with the help of LIBSYS software.

As per the programme schedule, Amit Kumar Singh from LIBSYS, provided direct hands-on training to the participants through lectures and live demonstrations. Acquisition and cataloguing models were covered during the first session. During the second session, training on circulation and serial modules were provided.

Welcoming all the participants and the resource person, Professor Nishat Fatima, the Librarian of the university, stressed on the importance of automation in libraries and how the university library started the process of automation in 2001 through the LIBSYS software.

Presently, our university performs automation activities using LIBSYS 7.0 version which is accessible within the university as well as its three centres in different states,” she further added.

The Maulana Azad Library is one of the largest libraries in India. It includes a central library with approximately 110 college and departmental libraries. The library introduced the AMU Library Network (AMULIBNET) to create a centralised database of all the libraries of the varsity in 2012. Seminar libraries at AMU are also linked with this database and this way, the data can be retrieved anywhere through the internet.

Deputy Librarians Dr. Asif Fareed Siddiqui, Dr. Habibur Rahman Khan and Dr. Monawwer Eqbal discussed the status of automation at the Maulana Azad Library while highlighting the timeline of the automation activities. They also coordinated the entire programme.

Approximately 200 participants including the faculty members, library professionals and students attended the training programme. Several queries and problems regarding the automation process were also discussed and solved during the live sessions.

Dr. Arun Kumar, Deputy Librarian, Dr. Jafar Eqbal and Dr. TS Asghar, Assistant Librarian, wrapped up the programme by extending a vote of thanks.
