Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has decided to postpone all end-semester examinations which were slated to be held in July till further notice. The decision to postpone the final semester/year university exams was taken as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the guidelines for the University Grants Commission (UGC) reviews are about to be released.

The information was announced by AMU officials through a press release available on their website, amucontrollerexams.com.

The AMU's release reads, 'All examinations (including backlogs/backlogs) of final year/semester students for the 2019-20 session scheduled for July 2020 have been postponed to further orders.’

Further decision on the matter shall be notified in the light of the guidelines/resolution notified by the Government of India / UGC on the matter.

Although the examinations have been postponed, no new dates have been announced as to when the examinations will be held.

Earlier, HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank asked the University Grants Commission (UGC) to come up with fresh guidance on the conduct of the examinations, taking into account the situation of COVID-19.

However, these guidelines have yet to be announced.

It should be noted that many universities have been postponing their final year/semester exams due to the COVID-19 situation and the resulting uncertainties.

Earlier, the University of Delhi postponed its Open Book Exams (OBE) for students in the final year for 10 days. While the Delhi University’s OBEs were scheduled to begin on July 01, 2020 after the postponement, the authorities decided to open the examinations on July 10, 2020.

Similarly, Lucknow University has recently decided to postpone all university exams scheduled to take place on July 07, 2020.
