New Delhi: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has ordered the closure of 97 government, aided and private institutes who have not applied for an extension of approval (EoA) for the last 6 years from the official AICTE portal.
AICTE has released the official notification regarding this closure on March 4, 2022, on its official website, aicte-india.org. The council has advised all the concerned affiliating bodies, State Govts and DTE to submit their objections against the closure within the next 15 days of the publishing date.

“Institutions that have not applied for EoA for SIX years consecutively shall not be eligible to apply under Break in EoA and such institutions shall apply as a new Technical Institution following appropriate procedure for closure of the programmes approved" the official AICTE circular read.
Attaching a list of institutes, the AICTE said, “It is informed that attached institutes are not applying on AICTE portal for the past 6 years and they shall be treated as deemed closed.”
List of Institutes Closed by AICTE
The list of institutions includes 4 branches of the Indian Institute of Tourism & Travel Management (IITTM) including Gwalior and New Delhi, which is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Tourism, GOI.
Swami Vivekanand Technical University (CSVTU), Department of Computer Science at University of Burdwan, Sanjay Gandhi Institute Of Engineering and Technology, and Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Professional Management are also there in the list. The highest number of institutes in this list belong to the north-western region (35).
Top AICTE Approved Management Colleges
In February, the AICTE stated that all deemed universities that have not yet obtained AICTE approval are required to do it in the academic session 2022-23, otherwise the Council will be forced to discontinue giving partial permission to only a few technical programmes/courses.
Recently, the AICTE has directed all PGDM institutions to apply for its approval before the start of admissions for the year 2022-23. The council has also warned that legal action will be taken against those offering any technical course/programme in violation of the regulations.
