AICTE Allows Admission to PGDM/MBA Courses Based on UG Marks; Details Here

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has officially permitted admission for MBA/PGDM programmes based on the marks secured in qualifying UG examination.

AICTE has issued a notification stating the delay of conducting common entrance tests for MBA and PGDM admissions due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation across the country.

In the AICTE notification, the council has mentioned that the qualifying tests for admission into PGDM/MBA courses are the all India Tests including CAT, XAT, CMAT, ATMA, MAT, GMAT along with the 7th option of Common Entrance Test of the respective State.

In most of the States across India, some of the above-mentioned entrance tests could not be conducted due to the spread of Coronavirus and there is no indication if these tests will be postponed or likely to be held or cancelled etc, AICTE said.

In order to avoid year-loss of the students, the Council has decided on an alternative technique to admit students. Being a facilitator rather than a regulator, AICTE considers an alternative solution through which students will be selected for admission into PGDM/MBA courses that will benefit both the Institutions as well as the students, AICTE said in its notice.

As a result, considering the current pandemic scenario, the institutions conducting admissions for PGDM/ MBA programs can admit students based on their marks secured in the qualifying examination by preparing a merit list in a transparent and concise manner, the AICTE notice adds.

However, the candidates who have appeared in any of the entrance tests mentioned in the APH 2021-22 and qualified irrespective of their marks secured in degree will be given high preference as long as minimum marks according to the APH 2021-22 are secured.

AICTE stated that if any seats remain vacant, Candidates will be selected based on their merit in the qualifying undergraduate examination. Also, the states can use this relaxation while allotting seats through the counselling process.

Further, the AICTE mentioned that this relaxation to the PGDM/ MBA Institutions will be applicable only for the AY 2021-22 and it will not be taken as a precedent for the upcoming academic sessions.
