New Delhi: The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) Goa has clarified that admissions to undergraduate engineering programmes in State colleges will be based on students' marks in Class XII board exams, regardless of their performance in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)-Mains.

Recently, the Goa State government decided to abolish Goa Common Entrance Tests (GCET) from the academic year 2024-2025, for admission to the engineering programmes in State Colleges. However, now, the admission would be dependent on the class XII grades.
However, the DTE also stated that merit-based JEE-Main eligibility will be required for engineering applicants seeking admission to NITs, IITs, and other centrally supported technical colleges.
In order to spare students from stress and to enable them to compete at the national level, the DTE has decided to stop offering the GCET from the academic session 2024-25. The GCET has been a crucial factor in determining merit for admissions to engineering degree seats in the State since 2005.
Every year, almost 2,500 students would typically take this exam on an average. There are around 5 colleges in the state that offer 1,578 engineering seats.
As Class 12 Board exam results would be considered for admission to undergraduate programmes like Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in State colleges, a DTE official urged students and parents not to panic.
The DTE official said that the student must receive a score of at least 45% in order to be considered for admission, regardless of JEE Main ranking but will need to pass the JEE, which the engineering students already do.
Further, the official stated that the JEE scores/ranks are for merit purposes if one is aiming for admissions in IITs, NITs and other institutes.
