The Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design or PolyU Design is significant design education and research hub in Hong Kong. PolyU Design is the only government-funded institute offering design education programs across various levels. International students can choose from 4 master's programs at PolyU Design.

Established in 1964, the school currently ranks #16 in Art and Design according to QS World University Rankings, 2022. International students need a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in design, business, humanities, or a technological field from an institution PolyU recognizes for admissions to the taught postgraduate programs. International students (except for native English speakers) need a TOEFL score of 80 (iBT) or equivalent as proof of English proficiency.

PolyU Design offers several exchange programs in coordination with top design schools around the world.

PolyU Design Campus

The school provides top notch research infrastructures including 8 laboratories and several first-class technical workshops. The workshops are performed in the Jockey Club Innovation Tower, a landmark building designed by Zaha Hadid, a globally known Pritzker Prize winner architect. The Research Centre of Future Caring Mobility performs interdisciplinary research across STEAM (STEM+Art & Design) disciplines to solve real world challenges.

PolyU Design Accommodations

The international  students are allowed to stay in the University-managed accommodation for the first 2 years of study, subject to the availability of residential space. The University-managed accommodation includes student halls and off campus housing at a reasonable rent of 1.36 lakhs INR. From the 3rd year onwards, international students need to arrange accommodation for themselves outside the student halls.

Non-local postgraduate students have to arrange their own accommodation in Hong Kong. Given the central location of the University, students living off campus can still travel to the campus conveniently. Details on visa applications, immigration regulations, health care, cost of living and other non-academic matters of concern to non-local students will be provided to admittees separately if they are offered admission to the programs.

A brief guide has been prepared by the Non-local Student Services Team (NLSST) to help non-local students make the best use of the opportunities and facilities available during their stay at PolyU and in Hong Kong. PolyU Design Admission Requirements

The admission requirements for the M.Des programs at PolyU Design are listed below:

  • Completed application form
  • Evidence of academic qualification (degree, diploma and transcripts)
  • Personal statement (Maximum 2 pages)
  • Certificate of service from current or previous employer (for mature applicants only)
  • 2 LORs (1 academic and 1 professional LOR)

  • TOEFL iBT score of 80 or TOEFL PBT score of 550 or equivalent

PolyU Design Cost of Attendance

PolyU Design Scholarships

PolyU Design scholarships for international students are offered as Entry Scholarships for Outstanding Admittees and Post Entry Scholarships and Prizes. Following are the details of the scholarships offered by the design school:

International Excellence Scholarship Offered to international students with creative talent. It is offered on a competitive, rolling basis 50% tuition scholarship i.e 10.72 lakhs
