Communication scientists are often confronted with the cliché that they should be able to speak particularly well. This, of course, falls short, because communication science is not primarily concerned with skilful conversations or private conversations, but rather examines public communication.
Public communication has long ceased to take place only via the mass media, and also encompasses the publicly visible (individual) communication of politicians, companies, organizations or citizens. Communication science examines the content, functions and conditions of public communication as well as their use and impact. For example, she asks about the working conditions in journalism, about its funding and its functioning, the use of journalistic offers and their effect on political attitudes or knowledge.

Following are the requirements for this program:

Interest in communication, media and social developments.
Desire to research independently and the ability to think analytically and conceptually.
Good oral and written expression in German.
Good knowledge of English for international contacts and to be able to read and understand specialist texts.
It is advantageous to have a good basic understanding of mathematics and not to be afraid of practical statistics.
Practical experience, for example with a (school) newspaper or in the communication practice of companies or organizations, is not a must, but an advantage.
