- The Saarbrücken master’s degree in chemistry enables students to gain an overview of the whole range of chemical compounds in their syntheses and properties and to work on challenging chemical problems in an innovative way.
- The students specialize in sub-areas of chemistry by choosing ten elective modules from an extensive range. In addition, the course enables students to gain an insight into the content and methods of the neighboring sciences.
- Chemistry at Saarland University is a very research-intensive subject. The focus is on the chemical-biological, chemical-biomedical and chemical-materials science areas, including nanosciences and synthetic chemistry.
- The Saarbrücken master’s course prepares chemists for work in industry, research institutes and public institutions. In addition, it imparts knowledge and skills that are required for a doctorate and further academic career.

Bachelor degrees in chemistry from German universities or equivalent universities are recognized without an equivalence test. In addition, other bachelor's degrees or other examinations are recognized upon request, provided that they are equivalent.

The particular suitability is usually proven by a bachelor's degree with an overall grade of 2.5 and better. The specialization is responsible for checking the special suitability.
