Art historians maintain, collect and receive works and groups of visual and artistic works from the past and the present, examine their state of preservation, research their history and develop their meaning in order to bring them to life in the present. They have the task of gaining scientifically-based statements about the content and formal structures, the historical position and the current content of art objects.
