The aim of the Center for Classical Studies is, on the basis of a broad, interdisciplinary collaboration in research and teaching, to ask questions about the peculiarities of the ancient cultures of Greece and Rome and, to the same extent, questions about the importance of these ancient traditions and role models for the genesis of modern times To pursue western-style cultures. The key point of this concept, which seeks to establish a new research focus within the university's philosophical faculties and to bundle the existing competencies, is its bipolar, mutually complementary question, which on the one hand relates to classical antiquity itself, and on the other hand, focuses on the reception of classical antiquity in the various phases of modern cultural genesis in Europe.
