The objective of the doctoral program at the Faculty of Business and Economics is to prepare students for a successful career in research and teaching as well as in non-academic professions. For this purpose, in addition to academic research such as dissertation work, students develop specialized skills and techniques that demonstrate research-oriented training. This training prepares students with the ability to understand and apply scientific methods in economic sciences and master their specialized research field. Graduates will be in the position to build on current theories and methods of economic science.
In addition, the doctoral program fosters professional skills such as teamwork and interdisciplinary work. Using these skills, graduates will be able to critically reflect and apply the learned theories and methods to contribute to new scientific knowledge. As such, graduates are trained for leadership positions both within and beyond academia.

The semester fees comprise administration fees, student body fees, and a Student union fee. The summer semester fee totals $476.54 for 2021. While the Winter semester fee totals $470.43 for 2021. So the yearly fee for attending this program is $946.97.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Master's degree or equivalent
- Eligibility:
- Proof of grades (such as a transcript) of bachelor's, master's, or comparable degrees totaling at least 100 ECTS in the field of study that you will be pursuing doctoral studies, or
- Proof of grades (such as a transcript) of bachelor's, master's, or comparable degrees totaling at least 30 credits in the field of study that you will be pursuing doctoral studies; and proof of grades (such as a transcript) of bachelor's, master's, or comparable degrees totaling at least 70 credits in other subjects, that your primary advisor considers useful in terms of your intended dissertation topic.
- Master's degree or equivalent with a grade point average of at least 2.5 or
- Proof of suitability and relevancy for the doctoral program. The suitability should be outlined in the expose.
- A minimum total of previous education:
- Master's degree with at least 300 ECTS total including the bachelor's degree, or
- Master's and bachelor's degree with at least 240 ECTS total and a grade point average of at least 1.5
Indian Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
- German at the level of the DSH-2
– or –
- English at the level C1 of the Common European Framework.
International students hailing from non-English speaking countries can prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
