Master of Science [M.S] (Applied Cognitive and Media Studies)
Field of Study:
Komedia is an interdisciplinary course of study that imparts knowledge and skills in the field of new media and human-computer interaction from the perspectives of computer science, psychology, and business administration. In the research-oriented course, students acquire skills for researching digital media while taking scientific knowledge into account. Specializations are computer science, psychology or social media, and professional communication.

Tuition Fees
There are no tuition fees at the University of Duisburg-Essen. All students are, however, subject to a student body and social contribution fee per semester.
The social and student body contribution for the summer and winter semesters 2021 amounts to a total of $774.86.
The amount is made up as follows:
- Mobility contribution (ticket): $506.82, of which $367.88 for the VRR semester ticket and $138.94 for the NRW ticket
- Social contribution for the Studierendenwerk: $229.96
- Student body fee: $38.08.
The social and student body contribution is not to be paid before enrollment! Students will be informed about the payment modalities upon registration.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Completion of the bachelor's degree in “Applied Cognitive and Media Studies” at the University of Duisburg-Essen or an equivalent degree; the bachelor's degree must be at least “good” (2.5) or better.
- either completion of the bachelor's degree "Applied Cognitive and Media Science" at the University of Duisburg-Essen, or
- Degree in a polyvalent bachelor's degree in "Psychology" or "Computer Science" at a state or state-recognized university or in "Applied Computer Science" at the University of Duisburg-Essen, or

Another, equivalent, at least three-year course with a first professional qualification and a total workload of at least 180 credits from a state or state-recognized university, of which at least 100 credits must be in the field of psychology or computer science.
Indian Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet the following requirements:
- Educational residents (people who have obtained their higher education entrance qualification in Germany or at a German school abroad) do not require any special proof of German language skills.
- Citizens of a country outside the EU with a foreign university entrance qualification must pass the "German language test for university entrance" (DSH 2 level) or the TestDaF (TDN 4) before starting their studies.
- Individual events can be held in English and in the majority of courses the underlying literature is written in English. Knowledge of English is therefore expected.
International students hailing from non-English speaking countries can prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
