Bachelor of Science [B.S] (Applied Computer Science - Focus on Engineering or Media Informatics)
Field of Study:
The course teaches the basics of computer science, mathematics, and knowledge from key and application subjects. Through basic and method-oriented training and the teaching of scientific work techniques, the graduates are enabled to be able to adapt to future technologies in the long term and to carry out a successful job throughout their entire professional life. Therefore, the students are not only taught contemporary and current applications but also theoretically substantiated concepts and methods that will endure in the long term.
In addition to broad basic knowledge, students acquire formal, algorithmic, and mathematical skills, they learn methods for analysis, design, and implementation of (software) projects and acquire basic technological knowledge. Students learn techniques for knowledge acquisition and project management and acquire interdisciplinary and social skills.
Based on general compulsory courses on the basics of computer science and the basics of mathematics, the students choose a focus (engineering or media informatics) and application subjects that are closely interlinked in the course. The students are enabled to accomplish transfer achievements and to apply their knowledge acquired in the core computer science in the respective focus area.

Tuition Fees
There are no tuition fees at the University of Duisburg-Essen. All students are, however, subject to a student body and social contribution fee per semester.
The social and student body contribution for the winter semester 2021 amounts to a total of $387.43. However, the social and student body contribution for the summer and winter semesters of 2021 amounts to a total of $774.86 per year.
The amount is made up as follows:
- Mobility contribution (ticket): $253.41, of which $183.94 for the VRR semester ticket and $69.47for the NRW ticket
- Social contribution for the Studierendenwerk: $114.98
- Student body fee: $19.04.
The social and student body contribution is not to be paid before enrollment! Students will be informed about the payment modalities upon registration.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- General university entrance qualification (Abitur) or course-related professional suitability (the latter after aptitude test)
- Applicants with a general university entrance qualification do not have to undergo the aptitude test.
Indian Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet the following language proficiency criteria:
- Educational residents (people who have obtained their higher education entrance qualification in Germany or at a German school abroad) do not require any special proof of German language skills.
- Citizens of a country outside the EU with a foreign university entrance qualification must pass the "German language test for university entrance" (DSH 2 level) or the TestDaF (TDN 4) before starting their studies.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent certificate to get admission to this program.
