NID DAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria varies as per the course - B.Des, M.Des - applied for by the candidate, and is broadly divided into two categories - Age limit requirements and Educational Requirements. Nаtiоnаl Institute of Design (NID) would conduct NID DAT Prelims 2023 on January 08, 2023 to intake students for Bachelor of Design (B.Des), and Master of Design (M.Des) courses.

NID DAT Eligibility for B.Des

NID DAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria: Bachelor of Design (B.Des)

All candidates applying for this course must meet the following criteria:

Age Limit Educational Qualification
  • Candidates for this course must be equal to or below 20 years old on July 30, 2023. Candidates from the reserved categories are eligible for a three-year age reduction in the maximum age limit.
  • Candidates born before July 1, 2004 are ineligible for the General Category.
  • Candidates born before July 1, 2001 are ineligible for the Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST, & PH).
  • Candidates who are taking or have already passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) examinations from AISSCE/IB/ICSE or any other qualifying examinations recognised Board during the academic year 2021-2023 are eligible to apply for NID DAT 2023

NID DAT 2023 Eligibility: Education Qualification Equivalent to Class XII Examination

Examinations considered equal to Class 12 are as follows:

  • Any final examination certificate of the 10+2 system conducted by a central or state board recognised by the Association of Indian Universities or respective State Governments
  • Intermediate or two-year pre-university examinations administered by a board or university recognised by the Association of Indian Universities.
  • The final year certificate of the two-year course at the National Defence Academy's Joint Services Wing (NDA).
  • The National Institute of Open Schooling(NIOS) senior secondary school certificate in at least five courses.
  • An examination administered by any public school, board, or university in India or abroad that is recognised by the AIU as equivalent to the 10+2 system. H.S.C. vocational examination.
  • The advanced (A) level of the GCE test (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka)
  • At the International Baccalaureate Office in Geneva, Cambridge University administers the high school certificate test or the International Baccalaureate Diploma.
  • Candidates who have finished their 10+2 or equivalent examination outside of India or from a board or university that is not listed above must present a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities.

NID DAT 2023 B.Des Seat Matrix

NID Bachelor of Design programme lasts four years. Candidates admitted to the B.Des course at NID must complete a one-year foundation programme. Following completion of the foundation program, the candidate will be assigned a discipline based solely on his/her performance over the previous year and the number of seats available in the desired discipline. English is the medium of instruction and correspondence at NID. The total number of seats available for the B.Des programme, including reserved seats, is 100. There are 15 extra places in the Bachelor of Design programme for international students. The following table summarises its areas of expertise:

NID DAT Eligibility for M.Des

NID DAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria: Master of Design (M.Des)

Candidates applying for the Master's program at NID must meet the following requirements:

Age Limit Educational Qualification
  • Candidates applying for this course must be at less than or equal to 30 years old on July 30, 2023. The upper age restriction for candidates from the reserved categories can be reduced by three years.
  • Candidates born before July 1, 1994, would be disqualified for the General category.
  • Candidates born before July 1, 1991, would be disqualified for the Reserved category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST, & PH).
Candidates must have passed or be scheduled to take the following exams by July 2023:
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline from any recognized Indian university or institute under the 10+2+4 scheme.
  • Under the 10+2+4 program, a Diploma in Design from any recognized university or institute.
OR
Candidates must have passed or be scheduled to take the following tests by July 2023:
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline from any of India's recognized Institutes or Universities under the 10+2+3 scheme.
NOTE: If the candidate has acquired a degree/certificate from a foreign university/board, an Equivalence Certificate must be obtained from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, prior to admission

NID offers a 2.5-year Masters's program in the following disciplines at its Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Gandhinagar campuses. Note: Candidates for the Master's  Programme may apply to a maximum of two subjects from the list above. Applications received in one discipline will not be moved to another discipline at any point during the application, admission, or course.

NID Eligibility for Overseas Candidates

NID DAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria for Overseas Candidates

Candidates with citizenship from countries other than the Republic of India are able to apply under the overseas candidates category. The overseas category includes 15% of the supernumerary seats in the B.Des and M.Des programmes.

  • NRIs must apply exclusively as Indian nationals.
  • Candidates having a foreign passport and a valid PIO or OCI status can apply under either the 'Indian' or 'Overseas' category. Candidates applying under the overseas category must pay fees similar to those charged to foreign citizens.
  • For candidates applying under the Overseas Category, only online applications will be accepted. Admissions.nid.edu is the official admissions website in this regard.
  • Candidates who choose to pursue a Bachelor's or Master's degree in the international category can only take the DAT at the Ahmedabad campus, which will be followed by Stage 2 and Stage 3 tests.
  • NID Hall Tickets will be accessible for download on the official website, and it is the candidate's obligation to print them
  • Overseas candidates must appear in person before the authorities at the respective NID campus to accept an offer of admission.

Documents Needed For Application by the Foreign Candidates :

Candidates must provide original documents as well as authenticated copies of the documents listed below.

  • Attested copy of the candidate's passport
  • Attested copies of SSC and HSC mark sheets are required for B.Des candidates.
  • Attested copies of SSC, HSC, and completed years of graduate marksheets, as well as degree certificate/provisional certificate/passing certificate, are required for M.Des candidates.
  • If the candidate is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), an equivalency certificate must be submitted prior to the admissions process.

Before beginning the programme, the candidate must submit a student visa for the duration of the course at the concerned NID Institute. If the selected candidates are unable to pay the required fees or fail to show the necessary documents prior to registration, their application will be cancelled. Seats that are left unfilled will not be changed into another category and will lapse.

Ques.: Can I appear in NID DAT 2023 If I am in 12th standard?

Ans.: Yes, candidates who will be appearing in 12th standard or have passed 12th standard from a recognised board in any stream will be eligible to appear in NID DAT 2023.

Ques.: What is the age limit for NID DAT M.Des 2023?

Ans.: Candidates who wish to appear in NID DAT M.Des 2023 should not be more than 30 years of age on July 30, 2023. Candidates born on or after July 1, 1994 will be eligible for the General category, candidates born on or after July 1, 1991, would be eligible for SC, ST, OBC-NCL category while candidates born on or after July 1, 1987, would be eligible for PWD category.

Ques.: Will I be eligible for NID DAT 2023 if I fail 12th standard?

Ans.: No, candidates should be able to produce a 12th standard pass certificate or pass certificate from an equivalent examination at the time of verification of documents during the counselling process. Counselling process will tentatively be conducted in May/June 2023.

Ques.: I have completed a diploma in Fine arts, Am I eligible for M.Des?

Ans.: Yes, candidates who have completed a 4-year diploma course in Fine arts, Design,Applied Arts or Architecture from a recognised university will be eligible for M.Des.
