ICAI CA 2022 Foundation Exam: Paper-wise Exam Pattern

ICAI CA 2022 Foundation Exam is the first exam that applicants must clear by an applicant who starts CA course freshly after their 12th is the CA Foundation Course.

  • Each paper of the CA Foundation exam is made of a maximum of 100 marks and the duration for each paper is 180 minutes (i.e. 3 hours).
  • The difficulty level of the exam ranges from easy to moderate.
  • In ICAI Exam for Foundation Course, subjective-type papers are Principles and Practice of Accounting & Business Laws.
  • In ICAI Exam for Foundation Course, objective-type papers are Business Correspondence and Reporting & Business Mathematics and Logical Reasoning & Statistics.
  • For each wrong answer in the objective-type paper, 1/4 th of the total marks are deducted.
  • There are no negative marks for subjective-type questions in ICAI Foundation Examination.
  • Applicants can qualify for ICAI Foundation Exam with a total of 55% marks in aggregate in all papers and a minimum of 40% marks are required to qualify for each paper.

ICAI CA 2022 Intermediate Exam: Paper-wise Exam Pattern

Applicants who have successfully qualified for ICAI CA Foundation Exam, can attempt the Intermediate exam. Applicants who start for CA can directly apply from the Intermediate course and they don’t need to go for the foundation course.

  • Each paper of the CA Intermediate exam is made of a maximum of 100 marks and the duration for each paper is 180 minutes (i.e. 3 hours).
  • The difficulty level of ICAI CA Intermediate Exam is difficult. Questions asked will include topics like Accounting, Corporate Laws, Taxation, Management, Cost Accounting, and more that tests the applicants in graduate-level knowledge. Check ICAI CA Intermediate Exam 2022 Syllabus
  • ICAI CA 2022 Intermediate Exam contains two groups i.e. Group 1 and Group 2. This course is composed of two courses namely New Scheme and Old Scheme. Applicants can select the groups as per their choices.
  • For objective-type papers, i.e. papers 2, 4, 6, and 7, 30% marks have been allotted.
  • For subjective-type papers, 70% marks are allocated.
  • There is no negative marking for the objective questions.
  • Applicants are required to answer the first question of each paper as a mandatory requirement and candidates are allowed to make choices for rest of the questions.
  • To qualify for the CA Intermediate exam, candidates need to score a minimum of 40% marks in each paper and a total of 50% marks in aggregate.

ICAI CA 2022 Final Exam: Paper-wise Exam Pattern

ICAI CA 2022 Final Exam is the last milestone to be achieved in the process of getting qualified from ICAI to get permission to practice Chartered Accountancy professionally. This exam is found the toughest by most of the applicants.

  • Each paper of the CA Final exam is made of a maximum of 100 marks and the duration for each paper is 180 minutes (i.e. 3 hours).
  • The CA final course contains two groups i.e. Group 1 and Group 2. This course is composed of two courses namely New Scheme and Old Scheme.
  • Candidates may select the groups as per their choices.
  • For objective-type papers, i.e. papers 3, 4, 7, and 8, 30% marks have been allotted.
  • And for subjective-type papers 70% marks are allocated.
  • In ICAI CA 2022 Final Exam, Paper 6 is an elective subject. Candidates can select any subject out of six choices at their convenience.
  • There is no negative marking for the objective-type questions.
  • The first question of each paper is mandatory and applicants are allowed to make choices for rest of the questions.
  • To qualify for the CA Intermediate exam, candidates need to score a minimum of 40% in each paper and a total of 50% in aggregate.

ICAI 2022 Exam Pattern FAQs

Ques. What is the maximum number of attempts in the ICAI CA Exam?

Ans. There is no such number of attempts thing in CA exams. Candidates can register any number of times and take the exam. However, candidates will be eligible to apply for the next level of course only if they qualify for the previous ones.


Ques. What is the difficulty level of ICAI exams?

Ans. All three papers are arranged in increasing order of their difficulty levels. As the CA exam is one of the toughest exams, the difficulty level of the exam can be considered moderate to tough. The Foundation course is of moderate difficulty level while the intermediate and final course is of higher difficulty levels.


Ques. Can an art student apply for a ICAI CA course?

Ans. Any candidate who has passed class 12 or equivalent exam from a recognized board or university can easily apply for the CA exam. It is not restricted to any subject background. Anyone can join and then clear the CA exams. Even the art student can apply for a CA course and get certified as a CA if qualified for the exam.


Ques. How much time does it take to become a Chartered Accountant through ICAI?

Ans. It depends on how your performance is during the tests. However, it takes a minimum of 4.5 years if a candidate joins from 12th based on CPT courses otherwise for the graduate students who apply through direct entry, it takes a minimum of 3 years to become a Chartered Accountant.


Ques. What is the most important subject for ICAI Exam?

Ans. Generally, Accounting, Taxation, and Law are the most important subjects for the ICAI CA exam. Maths is also an important subject for the ICAI exam. However, maths is not a compulsory subject.
