MTech Telecommunication Engineering: Admission Process

The M.tech telecom engineering entrance exams are GATE, IIT JAM, etc. basic steps to apply are given below:

  • Register: Registration will commence way before the entrance exams. Candidates should download or find the online registration form from the university website.
  • Fill in the Details: Candidates should next fill in the necessary details such as name, father’s name, religion, caste, etc. The candidate should make sure that all the information given is correct.
  • Attach all the documents: The next step is that the candidate should attach all the needed documents such as a mark sheet, important certificates, etc. 
  • Submit the form: Submit the registration form and pay the application fee. The application fee will defer according to the college.
  • Download Admit card: After all the candidates are checked for eligibility, the conducting body of the exam will issue the Admit cards. The candidate should download and print out his/her admit card. 
  • Write the exam: Prepare for the exam according to the syllabus and appear for the examination on the date announced. Candidates should bring the admit card along with them in order to enter the examination hall.
  • Wait for the results: Results will be announced in a few weeks of conducting the exam.
  • Interview or group discussion: Some colleges may conduct an interview or group discussion to filter the candidates further. Candidates who qualified the entrance exam will be called for the interview/ group discussion.
  • Admission - the candidates are given admission in the colleges based on the marks of the entrance exam and the interview/ group discussion if any.

A candidate is considered eligible for applying for M.tech telecommunication engineering if he/she:

  • UPSEE - Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination (UPSEE) is a state-level offline/online exam conducted by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU).
  • BHU PET is a university-level offline entrance exam conducted by  Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Varanasi. Exam date is not announced yet.

Ans. NIT Trichy has great placements for branches like CSE and ECE. Most of the recruiting companies give preference to B.Tech students rather than M.Tech. But as far as Communications Engineering is concerned, you will be allowed to appear for placement drives held by semiconductor companies with B.Tech students.  There are quite a few companies that prefer Communications students over VLSI. Many students end up being placed in dream semiconductor companies. Out of say, 35 students, only 1 or 2 are not placed. The placements are definitely improving over the years. Given below are a few factors which the students are required to consider before selecting between the two colleges:- Placement: In terms of placement, the average CTC of IIT Bhubaneswar stands out to be 11.5 lakhs/annum. Companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Oracle, IBM, etc visit the IIT Bhubaneswar campus for placement drive. Few well-known PSU named ISRO, IOCL, and ONGC were also part of the placement in 2019. Apart from the offered jobs, the final year students are offered internships with a good amount of pay. Ans. For admission into M.Tech ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar, students are shortlisted on the basis of their GATE score. This institute conducts a written test and an interview to select the shortlisted student for admission. Before the interview, the selected candidates need to appear in a written test, and only those who pass the test are considered eligible for the interview. There is no negative marking in the test and the subjects covered for ECE are Communications, Signals, EMT, Digital, Analog, EDC, and Maths. The pattern of the written test is as follows: 35 questions for 90 minutes. 1-20 questions which are 1 mark questions. 21-35 questions which are 2 marks questions The result of the written test is declared within one hour of the exam. And, the selected students are required to go through an interview in order to get admission. You may have the interview on the same day or the day after the written test. The interview takes about 15-20 minutes and the interview panel will have at least 4 members. Questions asked during the interview are mostly from your B Tech project, your choice of subject. Ques. Does IIT BHU have good faculty for M.Tech in ECE?

Ans. IIT BHU faculty for M.TEch ECE is good. The faculties are well experienced. Most of the faculty members have their Ph.D. The HOD of ECE department is Prof. Vishwambhar Nath Mishra. He has many publications to his name.  The faculties have received many awards. Dr. Somak Bhattacharyya who teaches Microwave Engineering, Metasurface, Terahertz, was selected for the IEEE UP Section Young Professional Star for the month of February 2021. Prof Satyabrata Jit was included on the editorial board of IETE Journal of Research. These are some of the many achievements of the faculty members of IIT BHU ECE department.Read more
