Future Scope

MTech Manufacturing Science and Engineering: Future Scopes

A post graduate in Manufacturing Science and Engineering has three choice to make which would decide his future –

  • To start his career – A postgraduate degree in Manufacturing is enough to land a person a good job in the manufacturing industries. Other than the manufacturing sector there are several other sectors where a willing post-graduate can land a job.

If he wishes to work in public sector/ government he should prepare himself to clear several competitive exams

  • Apply for full time PhD- Students willing to study further and highly specialize themselves in manufacturing engineering can choose to enroll in PhD programs. PhD in engineering is a rigorous 3-year course and hence the student must seriously contemplate his objectives and post-course career choices before enrollment.
  • Applying for full time MPhil - M. Phil is another good option for students looking to continue their studies. It is a relative less rigorous course than PhD and is limited to a one and half/ two-year duration
  • Applying for part time PhD/M Phil while working – Students can also apply for part time higher education courses while being employed. Part time higher education is preferable if the candidate wants to learn while earning. This also builds up his ‘years of experience’, which is a major consideration for employing companies. The only drawback to this route being, that it is extremely difficult for a student to manage work and studies and that these part time programs are of longer duration than full time ones.
Job Prospects

MTech Manufacturing Science and Engineering: Job Prospects and Career Options

Upon completion of MTech in Manufacturing Science and Engineering a student can look towards two career choices – to apply for a government job or to apply for a private job. A brief summarization of each choice is given below.

  • Aspire for Public Sector jobs –

A candidate aspiring for a public sector job can prepare for various exams for the same. Again, GATE is the gold standard not only in terms of admissions but also in terms of placement. Several PSUs and private companies like ONGC, SAIL, HAL, GAIL, BPCL and others hire solely on the basis of GATE score. Several other exams for placement in government sectors are –

  • Indian Engineering Services Exam (IES)
  • SSC JEE
  • ISRO/BARC
  • Railway
  • To Apply for Private Sectors –

Private sector hires on the basis of experience, academic record and the institute one has graduated from. Students of premier colleges like IITs, NITs, BITS-Pilani, Anna university and others are directly hired via on campus placement drives by the companies.

FAQs

MTech Manufacturing Science and Engineering: FAQs

Ques. Manufacturing Engineering or Additive manufacturing, which is more beneficial from a career's perspective?

Ans. Depends upon one’s circumstances. If the candidate is a recent graduate and is willing to devote his time and energy in a relatively new and ‘niche’ market of 3D printing, he should opt for additive manufacturing. The career possibilities in this rapidly growing field are quite high but it would at least take a decade before 3D printing becomes mainstream. On the other hand, if a candidate is a working professional looking to enhance his skills for better job prospects in the immediate future, manufacturing engineering is the way to go.

Ques. Can graduates from other core engineering streams such as Civil Engineering can apply for m tech in manufacturing science and engineering

Ans. No, only Mechanical engineers and graduates from other similar discipline e.g., Automobile Engineering are eligible

Ques. Can a currently employed person complete MTech in manufacturing Science and Engineering via distance learning?

Ans. No, UGC and AICTE have downright declared any distance education in MTech to be illegal. However, many institutes do offer part time/ sponsorship program for working individuals

Ques. What are one’s chances of getting placed after MTech in Manufacturing?

Ans. Depending upon the institute IIT and NIT graduates are sure to get campus placement while for graduates from other institutes. it depends upon their CGPA and experience. In any case a MTech graduate sure gets preference over a B. Tech Graduate

Ques. What would be the average package in manufacturing plants after MTech in Manufacturing Science and Engineering?

Ans. A graduate can fetch as much as INR 4,00,000 - 5,00,000 per annum as a fresher after graduating

Ques. Do one need work experience for applying for MTech in Production?

Ans. No, unless he is applying under the ‘sponsorship’ route or ‘part time’ course

Ques. Is it necessary to have prior knowledge of CATIA, AutoCAD and other design software?

Ans. No, but since learning design software is an integral part of MTech in production, it is beneficial to have prior knowledge.

Ques. How are NIT-Jalandhar M.Tech placements? Specially for manufacturing technology.

● Top Answer By Avinash Sachdeva on 05 Jan 23

Ans. M.Tech from NIT Jalandhar is not particularly useful for placement in manufacturing technology. The reality is that M.Tech from NIT Jalandhar is like any other college, and NIT Jalandhar only focuses on placement for their Undergraduate students, though they may arrange a placement drive for M.Tech students if necessary. So, if a student is exceptionally bright and possesses exceptional practical knowledge, he will be chosen for campus placement. Another issue is that there aren't enough companies in the region with manufacturing technology backgrounds.Read more

Ques. M.tech renewable Energy in JNTUK kakinada worth studying?

● Top Answer By Anamika Roy on 06 Oct 21

Ans. In JNTUK, there are no campus placements available for master’s degree holders. TCS sometimes visits for the interview of post-graduate students and only hires a few students depending on their performance in interviews.  The course is not recognized by AICTE so you won't get many opportunities after completing your course and won't even get any stipend through your GATE qualification.  It is better to prepare for IITs or IISC if you want a career in this field, as these institutes will help you a lot to achieve your goal. Also, a post-graduation from an IIT or IISC will add a boost to your career. It will also be very easy for you to opt for research internships or a Ph.D. if you are planning to do in the future.  It will be better to avoid this college and rather prepare for some better colleges such as IIT or IISC because there are no campus placements available here and neither you will get any kind of opportunities or exposure studying in JNTUK. Read more
