MSc Admission 2023 is done based on both entrance and merit. Some of the top entrance exams to offer MSc Admission 2023 are IIT JAM, CUET PG, etc. MSc Admissions are currently open in several top colleges such as SSE, SIG, etc. DU MSc Admission will now be done on the basis of CUET PG.

IIT JAM 2023 Registrations began on September 07, 2022, and the last date to apply for IIT JAM 2023 exam for admission to master or integrated Ph.D. courses in IITs and IISc Bangalore was October 11, 2022. IIT JAM was conducted on February 12, 2023 and IIT MSc Admission is ongoing based on IIT JAM scores. NTA released the exam dates for CUET PG. The CUET PG 2023 will be conducted between June 01 – 10, 2023 to offer MSc Admission 2023 in top universities. NTA has extended the CUET PG application forms till May 05, 2023.

MSc Admission Process 2023

MSc Admission 2023 is done on the basis of an entrance examination for most of the universities. The MSc Admission Process 2023 is mentioned below.

  • Choose and check the eligibility of the college you wish to apply for.
  • In case of an entrance-based MSc admission, apply for the entrance exam through the official website.
  • Fill out the MSc Admission Form with the necessary details and pay the application fee.

MSc Admission Counselling Process 2023

Students will need to attend the college’s counseling process if their name appears on the merit list of the college. Students will be called as per their ranks( which includes quota ranks).

Candidates need to choose their choice courses in the counseling process. Admission of the candidates will depend on the applicant’s rank, preferences, as well as the availability of seats.

The MSc admission counseling process will be held in three rounds that are: 

  • First and Second Rounds of counseling in which the total number of students will be eight times the number of available seats. 
  • Final and round open rounds will be done in offline mode. 
  • Seat allocation will be done post-counseling based on the student’s merit and other factors such as quota, eligibility, etc. 
  • Seats will be allocated based on the order: UR / ST / SC / OBC / EWS.

Spot Counselling

If seats remain unfilled after the final and open round of counseling, those seats shall be filled via spot counseling. The spot counseling details shall be released on the respective college’s official website.

Ans. Yes, pursuing a dual MSc BE in BITS Pilani is a very tough and tedious journey. One of my friends ended up going for a dual degree and considers it a complete waste of time. Here is a synopsis of the entire journey. First year: The first year is the deciding time for your BE degree so dualities have to work hard and score a high CGPA.  Second year: This year is relaxed as you will be taught only the courses from your first degree (MSc Degree). Third year: It's from this year that your dual degree flaws will start becoming prominent. While the single-degree students will be busy with humanities electives, you will be busy with compulsory discipline electives in both your degrees. This is also the year that will make you realize which degree you want to pursue professionally. However, by this time you will have 2 degrees to pursue so you won’t be able to give the degree you like enough time.  Fourth year: This year again is very challenging especially if you do PS for two semesters. You will have to study eight courses without any breaks. Because of this your other degree will suffer and result in poor CG. Your PS chances will be affected in turn that depends on your grades.  Fifth year: The fifth-year welcomes the most dreaded thesis. While your counterparts will have to do two discipline electives and another two humanities, you will be doing a 15 credits course alongside sitting for placements. According to the new rules, it is compulsory for students to do a thesis in one degree and PS in the other. Usually, students prefer doing PS in the degree of their choice so a thesis in the degree of not your choice is very difficult. Overall, I feel that a dual degree is a waste of time and you should reconsider your decision if you are planning to get one.Read more

You are going to get a pure science degree so it makes more sense to get the degree from an institute that focuses on that degree. IIT KGP is popular for its engineering degrees. So, you will be mostly surrounded by people who are pursuing engineering degrees. You won’t get to meet many like-minded students. The course structure of integrated MSc at IITs is also outdated.  At IISER Kolkata, you will get a decent course structure and better faculties for an integrated MSc. Read more

Ans. For the MSc. Cognitive Science program at IIT Gandhinagar, there are two selection rounds, a written test, and a panel interview. The application process starts from the 2nd week of January and based on your application (SOP and Academics), you are called to take a written test in the last week of February. The written test is the same for everyone. It contains 4 comprehensive-type questions and 1 question on Data Interpretation. The paper is of 25 marks and one-hour duration.  During the interview, a panel of three individuals asks questions based on your branch. For example, if you studied B.Tech Biotechnology, you will be asked questions on it. Some questions are asked from basic Neuroscience and others are asked from the subjects that you studied during your UG.  You will also be asked about your purpose for pursuing this course. This is an important question that will increase your chances of getting selected among students from various educational backgrounds.  The selection rate for the course is very slim, around 3.3%. Usually, your GATE/NET scores are not considered and your academic record, written test performance, and interview performance are taken into consideration for selection into the MSc. Having good class 12 marks, graduation, and post-graduation marks will improve your chances of admission and it’s always better to play safe. In case of average marks, you have the option to write to a professor in Europe who is working in a field that aligns with your research project topic. If you share a common ground with any professor you can get admission by skipping the entire formal admission procedure although you might have to appear for some interviews that will evaluate your research caliber. Overall, my recommendation is to apply everywhere as long as money is not involved. In cases you are required to send documents or GRE scores you need to be careful.Read more

The basic differences between MR at IIT Madras and Ph.D. at IIT Madras are Research : MS program has less research work than Ph.D. It is considered an extended version of MS and many MS students go for a Ph.D. afterward. Degree : An MS degree is awarded if the student has a minimum of 1 international conference paper and if the panel is satisfied that the work has met the standards of the institute. Whereas a Ph.D. is awarded only when the student has a minimum of 2 international journal papers and if the panel is satisfied and considers it as per the standards of the institute. Coursework: An MS student needs to take at least 5 graduate courses whereas a Ph.D. needs to take 4. Additionally a Direct Ph.D. or M.S.+PhD. needs to take 8. Duration: The time taken to complete an MS program is between 1.5-3 years whereas for a Ph.D. and M.S. + Ph.D it takes 3-5 years. This duration might be increased in case a student is unable to complete it in the given time frame . Viva: In Ph.D., you are required to pass a challenging Viva Voce, while in M.S. you need not. The difficulty level of this viva varies from department to department. Stipend: Under the HTRA scheme, an MS student gets INR 12400 while a Ph.D. student gets INR 25000.
