B.Ed.: Eligibility

The minimum eligibility criteria for B.Ed. admission 2017 are listed below:

  • Successful completion of graduation in any of Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) or Bachelor in Commerce (B. Com.) from a recognized university
  • A minimum aggregate score of 50% in graduation
  • A minimum aggregate score of 55% at post-graduate level

B.Ed.: Admission 2017

Admission to B. Ed. is done through entrance exam conducted by various states and institutions. Generally, the exam is conducted in the month of May or June and forms for the same are available online at the websites of respective institutes. Admission of candidates is subject to Cut Off released by the respective university subsequent to the B.Ed. entrance exam. 

B.Ed.: Distance Education

The minimum duration for B. Ed. through distance education is two years, however, the maximum duration is five years. Admission to the distance mode program is merit-based. Candidates should have scored a minimum of 50% aggregate in the undergraduate program in any discipline and 55% in postgraduate program. Along with this, candidates should have trained in-service teachers in elementary education or they must have completed a NCTE recognized teacher education program through face-to-face mode. 

B.Ed.: Selection Procedure 

Selection Process for B.Ed

Candidates are selected on the basis of their performance in the entrance exam. The selection process is usually conducted in the month of September every year. In order to take admission in the course, candidates must appear for the entrance exam. After the exam, B.Ed result 2017 is announced along with merit list by the university which allocates ranks to the aspirants according to their performance. Separate lists are issued for each category and stream followed by counselling process during which students are granted admission.

B.Ed Specializations

B.Ed.: Syllabus and Course Description

B.Ed syllabus is divided into various segments namely the Core courses, Pedagogy courses, Experience for Teacher Enrichment and Experience for Social and Environmental Sensitivity. The course is structured in a way such that all students acquire knowledge about all the aspects of teaching. At the same time, it also makes them aware of the situations one might encounter while teaching in schools.

The core courses provide a conceptual and contextual understanding of the topics while the pedagogy courses deal with the aspects essential for a teacher. On the other hand, the latter segments impart experience to the students which develop their teaching abilities.

Candidates are required to appear in an entrance exam conducted by various independent universities and B.Ed. Colleges for pursuing a career in teaching and related fields. This paper deals with the issues related to school and the social environment essential to the understanding of a teacher.
Pedagogy Courses
Subject Knowledge and the Related Pedagogic Dimensions (Part I) (Subject: 1 Science– Biological/Physical /Maths/SS/ Language–Hindi/ English/Urdu/ Sanskrit/other region-specific lang.) Pedagogy of mathematics, social sciences, biological sciences, physical science, language (English, hindi, urdu, Sanskrit) This course deals with the understanding of subjects through a pedagogic approach. This is the basic level of subject knowledge and deals with the theoretical study of these subjects in the light of the pedagogic requirements.
Subject Knowledge and the related Pedagogic Dimensions (Part I) including Understanding Teaching Learning Situations (Subject: 1 Science–Biological/ Physical /Maths/SS/LanguageHindi/ English/Urdu/Sanskrit/ other region-specific lang.) - This is the extension of the previous course; it provides a hands-on experience to the students in real life classroom situation.
Assessment for Learning Overview of assessment and evaluation, what is to be assessed, assessment of subject-based learning, teacher competencies in evolving appropriate assessment tools, data analysis, feedback and reporting This course provides an understanding on the importance of assessment, and the basics of how to effectively plan the assessment in any academic year.
Learning to Function as a teacher Engaging with narrative and descriptive accounts, engaging with popular subject-based expository writing, engaging with journalistic writing, engaging with subject- related reference books, engaging with educational writing. This course is an experiential course which fully focuses on the learning of the subject areas in classrooms.
Developing Teacher Sensibilities
Strengthening Language Proficiency  - As the name suggests, this paper deals with the effective communication on the part of the teacher during the classroom teaching.
Health and Physical Education Theory based on concepts of holistic health, collective responsibility, understanding the body, food and nutrition, physical fitness, role of institutions. It is an integrated understanding of health, diseases and fitness among children and encouraging healthy habits among them.
Exploring Library and Other Learning Resources Library policies, library as a resource, types of books, locating information. This course aims at developing an understanding in the student-teacher to know how to best use the resources available in the library.
Education for Peace Understanding peace as a dynamic social reality, understanding conflicts, personal-social processes, meditation, and transformation of conflict, empowerment of self through critical self reflection, orienting education for peace building, evaluation of the peace building processes. The aim of the course is to make the student-teacher understand the concepts of peace education through various processes. Practical activities are also taken up in this course.
Issues of Conservation and Environmental Regeneration Importance of conservation, community participation, consumerism and waste generation, environmental conservation, role of women. Conservation of the environment is one of the core areas of study in this course. The National Policy on Education makes the environmental education as one of the major courses in B. Ed.
General orientation of student- teachers Interaction with students, observation of various departments, on-site interaction with staff. This is a kind of on-site training mandatory for every student-teacher to learn about the practical experiences and application of the theoretical knowledge in the practical school atmosphere.

The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree is offered in five different domains such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology. Candidates aspiring to seek admission to the B.Sc (Hons.) degree program must have passed the 10+2 level examination. Admission to the B.Sc (Hons.) course is based on merit in the qualifying 10+2 level examinations.

In addition to the B.Sc (Hons.) course the institute also offers a B.Sc (General) programme in the field of Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Information Technology.
